    What are you changing ?,
    - You're linking to same site, but are change your keyword, or
    - You're change the entire link, so linking to other site

And, are you talking about PR benefits or about CTR increase/decrease ?

I don't think changing your signature every week make any difference - it's only time consuming, so I wouldn't get into that.

The only reason I would change my link(s) is if I wanted to update everyone on something specific on the the site or.... I had sold or bought a new website... otherwise it is a time wasting exercise.

I think if you are updating the content on your site and changing your sig, it may even help. It will look like you are keeping things up to date, as both will be in a constant flux. I also think it may help people notice. As I get used to a member here on DP I tend to ignore their sig & post bit, if one or the other changes, I'll be more inclined to notice.

Agreed. I even like the changes in the avatars. I have known some people here on DP and when they change their avatar it makes me wanna click on their sig to see whether they have changed anything else apart from the photo.

Once in the Google Cache it'll take a while for it to be updated. If a thread never gets any new posts, then sometimes, there will never be an update and the big G will see the sigs in that thread as they were first written.

Though, even though the sig was never updated in the google index, it is still indexed, and therefor still a backlink (or potential backlink).

Newly indexed posts (regardless of when posted) will certainly reflect the changes to your Signature.

Assuming you post regularly, I would think it would make sense to rotate in different keywords (it seems that once made, a post stays the same).

I'll test this theory by adding an extra link and posting again to this thread. If I'm right, I'll have two posts with different sigs...

This is a test -- I should now have a different sig...

    Ok -- it doesn't work. :(

    lol

It's a template based system. When your browser pulls a post it takes it from several sources. It's how your post count changes with each post, and why your rep goes up.

On any given vB page there are likely a dozen or so things that get mixed into the final outcome. Header, Footer, Post_bit (where your name & what not is), the post itself, the sig, etc.

So the information is not kept on a post by post basis, but rather in a specific locations which can be edited and updated without needing to go through each and every post/page/thread.

This way, when you change your sig, it changes ALL of them. Likewise, if Digital Point wanted to add a link to the navbar (that top menu) they just need to change one little file (template) and it changes millions of pages at once.

Though, I guess you'd actually need to understand how most forums work to actually catch that. Not knowing could certainly lead to your logic (which is not flawed at all really).

Like the others mentioned i dont think its worth it due to the fact your updating every single signature link instead of just on a per post basis which is why unless your placing a new site there etc there is no real point in changing it.

It depends what you use it for. If you use it so that you can try and get good rankings in Google then don't keep changing it I don't think. If you are using it to get direct traffic, then maybe change it a few times at first just to see what link performs the best and then leave it after you have done the testing.

    Actually...

As this is in "General Marketing" and not in SEO or Link Building, then in a way, the point of changing it would/could be the change itself. Alternating the colors, changing fonts, anything to make it stand out on a week to week basis can bring in that product recognition.

Though, ask this question in Link building or SEO and you are correct in emphasizing n-james' post:

I don't think it makes a difference. It's actually better, b/c there is something new on your sig link. :)
