ok I didn't read the entire thread but I think I get the gist of it.

First of all, going free to paid is not a new concept. A lot of succesful websites and businesses use this strategy. It's just good business sense.

Secondly, who gives a damn? Noone is forcing you to use the tool so if you want to use it, pay for the membership. If you don't, just move on. It's obviously a good tool as I know many webmasters who are recurring premium members on that site.

Third, do you expect them to lose money just to give you guys something for free? If they are spending thousands of dollars on server resources and bandwidth, don't they have the right to charge you for this? Are you that naive?

And lastly, some of you are self-promoting tools in this thread repeatedly. Pretty sure that's not allowed on dp.

    My 2c

I love the fact that so few people who are in this industry, seem to be using this tool. Just means there are more high quality links around for the rest of us (who are using it) to find :)

You keep on falling for the fake PR7 links, and we'll keep on scooping up all the genuine PS5 links ;)

Hey gang - someone gave me a heads up on this thread and I figured it would be the responsible thing to do to try and comment.

Obviously, it's frustrating to us that the Page Strength tool doesn't always return perfect information - right now we pull data from sources like Yahoo! about .5 million times per day and maintaining that many IP addresses and servers to handle the load is pretty darn tough.

The page strength tool is a part of our premium services, and while I wish we could offer it to everyone for free, as we once did, that increases our load to around 1.5-2 million queries per day and makes the data for everyone much lower quality and less useful.

From what we see, Page Strength reports are 100% accurate about 60% of the time. That's pretty bad, and we're always working to try and make it better, but it's not easy. I've got two programmers in house who work on that issue, along with maintaining our site, doing work for clients and building other projects, so it's hard to devote the engineering resources necessary.

My one comment on this would be that I feel we're being a bit unfairly targeted. We're certainly not trying to "scam" anyone - there's no deception about our service or the tool (despite the frustrating inaccuracies). We let folks run one free query per day (if you really wanted to, you could sign up for a bunch of accounts and run a bunch of reports - we don't really try to prevent this) and allow premium members to run more (since they help support the many servers and IPs that this requires).

Honestly, we've always tried to do business in the best possible way and never scam anyone. If there's anything you think we should be doing differently, feel free to email me and let me know. I'm on the road at SES Toronto right now, but will be back in Seattle late next week (got some clients to see on the east coast).

Yes you have to maintain more servers,I understand this!

Yahoo allows 5000 queries for a day for an ip ,So you need to have about 100 different ip's!
Let me know how many servers are you having an then we can conclude!

Now your Google page rank tool is also not working!you should use delays in between so that it does n't look liek an automated query?

    Also
I wish to know what is the real use of .edu and .gov back links in PS,as it does not send any traffic to a website or it does not indicate a real value of a website!

The only joke I can see is, Google PR, and those who kneel at its altar.

The biggest scam around today is the link selling from webmasters with their grossly over-valued sites, and their high PR.

But thanks to tools like the one at SEMOZ, it's very easy to evaluate a page's worth in terms of its link benefit. Of course you can do this yourself, without the aid of a tool, but when you have to assess dozens of these pages, this tool is a great time saver.

For your information, It does consider PR as a factor and even worse, Alexa Rank.. Most of time it fails to pull data from one source (Yahoo often) or another.. So far from being accurate, its worthless IMHO..

Of course it considers PR as a factor, one of many (as it should be), but it clearly isn't given the huge weighting attached to it by link sellers and the unlucky buyers/victims of these links.

As for Google's PageStrength score, it got 7.5 out of 10 at this end. (is that what you're seeing ?)

It's nice to know I've got a couple of links from pages with higher PS scores than Google :D

Point being, you shouldn't be surprised by that score
    - there a loads of sites out there with more link juice than Google.

Yes and more than that...I am seeing following as well:

    • Alexa Rank 0%

Source: Alexa No alexa data found
    • Domain name visibility A count of results at Google for a search for your domain, showing URL visibility rather than incoming link count. 0%

      Source: Google
    • Listings in DMOZ (ODP) 0%

      Source: Yahoo
    • Links found in Wikipedia 0%

      Source: Yahoo 0
    • Google Pagerank of full URL and Domain 50%

Source: Google Full URL: - Domain: 10
Clearly showing that tool is broken:D:D:eek:

Doh I voted the wrong one and can't figure out how to change it so I'll just post.

Come on people, get a life. Don't bitch if you don't pay. I'd like to see you run such a tool under such high usage. Good luck with that.
