....according to you, the DP readers, of course.

As webmasters, we've all done it.
Especially those like myself that come home after the drudgery of a full-time job.
We stare at the computer and think to ourselves "There is a way out of this way of life, and I'm going to find it....someday".

We have the URL's we bought from GoDaddy, etc....
We have some pretty good server space somewhere....
    We have a niche.........

    That's where the fun starts.

What IS the most profitable niche in today's internet world?
(Let's go beyond the "porn" answer that is usually mentioned first, please)

Is it a website for a very popular topic that we simply "plug and play", then hope to reap the rewards of our Adsense and Affiliate income?
Does it NEED to be "Web 2.0"- completely user oriented, whereby users generate content?

Go ahead- think of a niche that you can describe with one word that should be the best thing to ever hit the internet airwaves.....
I have a pretty good feeling the answers will raise some eyebrows.

Depends how you monetize...if you're strictly speaking niches and adsense, then health, law, and real estate are the kings. But if you only have 10 visits a day that won't do much good. Look at plenty of fish, he makes millions a year with adsense, and it's all dating ads, because he gets ridiculous amounts of traffic.

Traffic is king, regardless of niche.

I really have to agree with MrX, that is completely true.

Its a nice topic you started Claymation, but to me traffic is what is really important.

yeah, but some small niche based sites make ten times more than very large sites... but I will have to agree, traffic is king :)

religion & politics are always juicy - just look at the "religions" subforum at DP for example, lots of topics that could go on forever.

    I think they average .20 - 25 cents a click, but that's just a wild guess. ;)

Of course it does not have to be user generated, though user generated content does help because you generate free content, free traffic, more money.

But the quality of that traffic is really what pays the bills.

    Almost forgot: Benders. ;)

politican: hmm, wild guess... is that really so? I suppose the opportunities to write controversial posts will anyway give plenty of opportunities to attract traffic.

I'll tell you this for free, most of the people making money on the internet use the internet marketing niche - making money out of people trying to make money.

Of course- there are many of them right here on DP...LOL

Another factor I'm always kicking around is whether my time is better spent in terms of search marketing rather than waiting around for websites to blossom.
In essence- bidding for keywords and pointing the clicks to affiliate pages.
It is much more dangerous, for sure.
