Everyone needs to sign this petition. Congress wants to make a bill that will not let churches talk about homosexuality.

What is the current law on hate crimes?

"By refusing to accept this amendment the Democrats on this committee have proven their purpose, to remove freedom of religion from the U.S. Constitution," said Sheldon.

LOL, in that case, bring back the KKK. Its all religious.

They arent a hate group either. Just religious.

Killing, hating, destroying is wrong unless its in the name of religion?

    What if you're another denomination?

While I am not, my family is largely Catholic and has had many a run-in with KKK members.

Why? For merely being involved in another denomination.

It could be a hate crime to make a racist statement or tell a homophobic joke or say anything bad about someone's religion. Just look at the politic/religion section of DP we are all going to be doing hard time in the big house! The government should learn that "sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me." If a preacher was to be talking negative about homosexuals it would bother me and I wouldn't like him or his church and I might make fun of him. But if we start arresting everyone that says something offensive, there will be more people in jail than out of jail.

p.s. I just signed the petition not because I like christianity but because I believe in freedom of speech:)

Why do christians deserve that right when gays dont get the right to marriage?

I'm not going to help extend the rights of people who won't do the same for others.

Because I believe this bill has very little to do with exclusively giving preachers the right to talk about homosexuals. It has much more power than that, it is setting a legal precedent that we will all be judged by. If this became law, it gives big brother the power to prosecute us all for saying anything that could be interpreted as negative about any group.

Nearly every law passed by Congress takes away this or that freedom from us. Protesting individual legislation is a waste of time... Why not protest the power of Congress to make laws and the police power of the state instead.

It is much better than doing nothing and let your rights be taken away.
If you start protesting that the government has power to make and enforce laws, people are not going to understand. Better to break it down and go bit by bit...
