Since Google implemented "Report Paid Links" in webmaster tools. Many of link directories require submitting fee for maintenance and administration. Somemore many advertisement sites sell their links for traffics. Is that also considered paid link?
Google is going after paid links. My 2-cent view is that Google knows who are the major providers of paid links and Google will get you if your back links are coming from them.
No one know if anything is paid or not. The point is if the links is relevant to content of the web site or not. Any good web page is ranked high within the search results if it is visible enough and if the traffic that goes there is organic.
For some reasons, I just have wonders if link directories are really useful in link building. They exist for that purpose, but have they quite served that purpose?
There's nothing more useful. Do you know that out of my customers for my small link directories, I count 3 Fortune 100 companies as clients? Professional SEOs never question the value of web directory links. It's only among non-pros where you even hear the value questioned. Do you know how many more link directories there are on the internet now than in 2003? You know why? Because they work for their customers. There are hardly any other sources of "permanent" "links that count" anywhere online. It's a damn bargain buying links from web directories, so the next time you buy one, you make sure to thank the owner.
yeah... they are still very effective in link building, one thing only is the process on driving traffic to your site may take 3-5 weeks
Link directories can be used for link building, but they are not the most effective way to anymore. Google does not rank directories as high as they used to be.
Some still claim that directories are still good, but like any link I think it's the age of the domain the PR (for Google) and a lot of other factors
like this post was and should have stayed ... dead and buried. Think about it... when was the last time you did an actual search and found a directory within the top 10 results? 2006? or 2007? (when this post was made). Directories are dead and so are article directories... anything made to cheat pr or gain links is dead.... face it and move on.
If some one is placing some link in the right category and in web directory, and it gets approved then definitely it is going to count in the backlinks to your site..either it is paid or free.
