Yeah, true there are many trusted directories which openly sell links, for example Joent, Gimpsy. I dont think it will affect any of these directories and the sites listed in them.
no worries, all will be fine. all major newspapers, all trusted sites and pretty much any decent site out there sells links, just have a look at text-link-ads.com so things will stay that way for a while, till google figures a way to give less credit to links in their ranking algo's
Thats exactly right. If I were to follow every single rule google laid down, then my sites wouldn't have any links. Without links, I can't rank. If I can't rank, no one will find me. If no one finds me, then there is no way I'll ever get those oh-so-important 'natural' links. So what would my motivation be to build a better web if nobody is going to see it? At one time, the whole 'link' theory was a sound idea. Not any more....
This totally rots. Not that this is news (other than the reporting feature in webmaster tools part) but I can just imagine people trolling the link sales forum and reporting everyone that is selling links! killer. If I didn't sell links, I wouldn't be able to support my sites and would never get to the point that I could afford not to sell them. And no one will pay for nofollow links! lol Seriously though, how many authority sites just put links to other web sites for no reason other than they are good sites? google is trying to stop a tsunami that they created with their algorithms. We're all on the google puppet master strings Lisa
Google is not stupid, it's an intelligent company. Adobe got PR10 from providing a software which millions have linked to their sites naturally, not by buying links. That's true, but it doesn't mean we can rely on paid links offering the same value if Google chooses to alter their algorithm.
This may have nothing to do with directories, but there are those who dont know that this, and this is where you start seeing people who hate directories, and the QBC's start reporting random good directories.
I'm not going to overly worry myself about it. If I start seeing problems, I will change the way that I do things. Until then, I won't worry about it.
That's only for software Suppose you are having a good quality content site how do you promote it? by releasing a free software that has nothing to do with your site's content!
I remember Matt Cutts saying that add your site to BOTW or Y! dir could be fine to improve your SERP position (paid links, SERP manipulation), now sell or buy a link is an "reportable" activity :S... Incredible, so we cant buy links for traffic?, or they have a way to know if your paid link is for traffic or for SEO?, The NOFOLLOW attribute is not just for it? :/
most link directories site will request some $$$ for feature links and free for regular link. If I'm only submit regular link, will be safe?
You will be safe both ways. Google will never penalize anyone for buying links. Otherwise, every webmaster would start buying links for his competitors . Link sellers also may not see any stringent penalty - only their links may get devalued. The PageRank based link market is too big for any human intervention. Google is doing this just to make its algorithm, more capable of detecting paid links.
It's not a joke. The principle of PR is a very good idea, but it got lost along the way, when google made things to complicated, and PR lost it's meaning
So when is DigitalPoint going to nofollow all of the paid links here? When I see that happen, I'll begin to worry.
Did you guys see this? This is totally retarded, google is asking people to report sites that have paid links! Read more here
