5 sites with same shared IP addresss

    Hi,

I host my 5 sites on same dedicated server with a same shared ip address . All sites are interlinked.

Will same shared ip address bring bad effect on my listings on Google?. Is it recommended to assign unique ip address to each of my site?

    Thx!

i have the same setup as you (3 sites, not 5) ..
It is my understanding that this will not have a bad effect on your SERPS, but your interlinking may be discounted, or not 'as good' as if they were on separate servers.

Agree with Tearabite If your 5 sites on same server and u also used internal linking with your all sites it will be bad effect on your sites it my opinion, B'coz google not like that kind of linking.

    Cheers

Those fellows at http://PGinsider.com don't think that interlinking is bad. Being reasonable is the trick I guess.

I will have to agree with this somewhat. I have not seen from my own experience a good or bad experience with interlinking on a share ip. I would tend to believe though that it is not a good idea as I have not had any gain from it. So that being said I have strayed away from this practice and got my backlinks through other methods.

I would suggest you don't interlink them.

Four of my sites got banned in Google because they were interlinked. I had used sitewides, but still I would advise people to avoid interlinking sites on the same IP address.

It may be seen as an attempt by Google to manipulate PageRank.

I've been wondering the same thing. I've avoided interlinking just to be safe.

It will not create any problem. Pls do not over linking each other. If you will do the same they you may get into trouble.

I would advise against using sitewides to interlink. If you must interlink between sites only do it to a few times at most and ensure the page you are linking to is relevant.

Completely interlinking 5 sites is bad whether or not they are on the same server if all 5 sites link to all 5 sites. That just screams unnatural links. It would be better to spread the links around.

My understanding is that the IP won't hurt you, but two-way links may be discounted.

I'm not sure if this mean domain-level or page-level two way links, so I usually play it safe and only link in one direction from one domain to another if I'm looking to pass pagerank.

Are you sure that was the only reason? Did they say that was why? I would think if that was all they'd just ignore the links for pagerank purposes.

I have two sites that are logically part of the same site like "foo.bar.com" and "bar.com/somepage" and thru their navigation they are effectively crosslinked on every page. Maybe I should be using nofollow in my nav?

There could not have been any other reason. They were completely different sites. In fact one was just a simple web directory using phpld.

    www.suggest-link.biz

I have never used any keyword stuffing or any other black hat techniques on any of them.

Google already "know" about your different sites, there are several blog accounts of Matt Cutts talking to webmasters at conferences about site A and mentioning site B (and others), even when they unlinked. Google monitor all kinds of data and can infer links and signals.

If you have sites linking make it relevant. If all the sites are in a niche than a link exchange is appropriate and (probably) wont be considered manipulation by Google. Do make sure you link into other sites too though.

Site wide links are a somewhat separate issue to simple in text linking, I do it, but I know it's not the best thing, and those sites that I indulge were hit more by the recent Google Page Rank change.

If one site is for web design, another for hosting, etc then the other sites linking back would be appropriate and normal behaviour, but those target design/hosting sites wouldn't normally site wide link back, and would just have a links page to "clients".

Having many accounts on a single IP can be a good thing, five is not many.

Have multiple customer sites sharing the IP. If you can't do that, then use a hosting service that shares IPs amongst customers. It's hard to infer much anything if you're lost in a crowd of a thousand or more on the same IP.
