Wikipedia Oddness

Hello guys/girls, I'm so baffled with wikipedia. Take for example you have a site that has nothing but advise about "Smelly Feet". I feel that the site is indeed high quality, reseached articles and great solutions. So naturally I want to post it into wikipedia under "Foot Odor" under external links. Nothing wrong with that right?

The wierd thing is when I put it there, after 5 minutes its removed and the page was "reverted". Somehow I can't believe that there's someone out there that sits in front of his comp checking wikipedia pages ever 5 minutes and reverting all my changes. Is it a bot? And if so how do I overcome this problem.

Remember my site is totally about smelly feet and I feel is a good contributor to wiki, The link won't stay up more than 5 minutes before it is reverted. Who reverts this stuff? Is there a wiki policy against bots? How do I get my changes to stick?

    Any contribution would be great.

    Thanks!

It's not a bot. Your site was rejected by a human, they have very tough standards over there. The links are ''no follow'' anyways.

Ok so let me get the processes right here. You mean when I actually make a change it actually has to be approved by a human that workds for wikipedia?

I was always under the impression that wikipedia is a free for all with not actual human "editors".

don't waste your time with wiki - it won't do you any good. focus on smart marketing techniques that yield results. Wiki is no good for websites/small businesses.

The page gets changed immediately, but human editors can check all the latest changes. It's kind of a free for all, but with plenty of editors to keep us marketers in line ;)

Some editors get their kicks by sitting there and deleting external links.

If you really want a link there, even when it has the No-follow! OMG!
Just write a page about your site. Load it with keywords, and maybe you'll get picked up in G and get some link-clicks out of it.

The inherent conflict of interest means there is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:EL#Advertising_and_conflicts_of_interest

    It's more complex than that.

    You don't.

    Unauthorised bots yes.

    You don't.

Please stop attempting to spam wikipedia.

There is a difference between spamming and adding a useful link to wikipedia. Some editors are overzealous and remove every link that is entered. If you are getting rejected just forget it and maybe try next month. Wikipedia can give you some decent traffic but its not worth a ton of trouble.

I think thats a bit premature to assume that people submitting sites automatically means its SPAM. It may be because its truely beneficial?

Anyway, to the rest, Thanks for the helpful suggestions and I'll just keep in mind those people that sit in front of the comp hitting F5 to see changes in their wiki, what a glorious life for them man...

    Cheers

Take content from your site and cite it as a reference, don't do external links.

Hmm, I'm going to have to disagree with most of you.

I've used external links in wikipedia to great success. I get hundreds of visitors who click on the External Link each day, it's great!

Link spam is the addition of unsolicited links. Given wikipedia's policy towards adding a link to your own site all such links qualify as spam.

Years of experience suggests that the odds of people acutely being able to rate the quality of their own site are so close to zero they can safely be ignored.

Except wikipedians know about that tactic and have done so for over a year.
