I am starting a new thread for people who are planning to start and earn from Directories. Steps : 1) Select a domain and hosting 2) Install PHPLD or other directory scripts 3) Add adsense in proper places 4) Promote your directories : a) Announce your directory release in DP b) Submit to as many directories for free c) Buy links from +PR7 d) Do some SEO I hope you will get the money back within three month ! I invite geeks to add there comments !
It is the choice of the directory owner but i would avoid placing adsense or too much adsense on a directory, many people dont feel it has much place on a directory and since many of the visitors are webmasters, they are ad aware and may not click much. There is also much more to do in between and taking time reviewing is a good idea, also time on maintenance, making changes, dealing with questions, tweaking etc as the directory will definately not run on its own.
That's necessary and basic. And there are more tips about building a directory. Reading the posts on this forum is a good way.
But adsense makes easy crawling ! And since the visitors are webmasters they wait for more paid services than other people !
I am not agree with this. how can you say that adsense make your site easy crawling. Crawlers for Adsense and for site both are different. there is not any relation with crawling of site and google adsense.
Best way to earn from directories is : Start your own directory submission service (easy if you are in India ) Put up a bold banner sitewide below the header on your directory saying - "Bored of submitting to manually to each & every directory ? We submit your website to xxx directories for just $xx "

adsense doesnt earn much, unless you are not a webmaster. webmasters don't click adsense ads much, so ads in a directory have little offence. its better to sell banner space. you also forgot to mention buying blog posts for promotion/backlinks, and sponsoring wordpress themes to improve backlinks.....
I also insist not to add Google Adsense there. Using it since last 6 months at my directories and not satisfied with its reult
India = low costs of running a business = more profits. Yes, I am mixing up submissions & running a directory, but I have tried it & has been very profitable for me. I got about 200 orders via my free directory out of 9000 + people who have submitted their website at my directory.
Definitely some helpful info for new directory owners who think that installing phpLD and announcing their directory here is the Only thing to do. You haven't said if its for "Paid Directories" or for "Free Directories" or for both.. However, I will like to give some comment. (Mainly for Paid & Serious directory owners) 1) AdSense is a good option for Free directories but paid directories should always avoid it. 2) You should submit to free as well as paid directories if you really want to improve your directory. Paid Directories will certainly be more helpful . 3) You don't really need to jump start from PR7 links. They will certainly help but you should increase your no. of links as well. (So PR4/PR5/PR6 should also be your option) 4) You don't need "Some" SEO, you need it a lot. Starting with unique Meta description & keyword for all categories & SE friendly detail page url. Keep working & keep improving. You will certainly get you reward in the end. Thanks Fastian
