Lots of Traffic But No Click

    Hi,

I have been lurking in the Freebies forum for a while, getting lots of stumbles and diggs for my site. This payed off because I got more hits than ever before (407 in one day).

With this amount of hits, I thought I'd get some money from AdSense, but it seems not one person has clicked on it!

Any suggestions how to get more clicks?

    Cheers

I would add a affiliate program that offers something that relates to your site. Stumble upon and other istes do not have a high click rate compared to search engine traffic.

You can also try moving ads on your site to see if that helps.

Digg, ppl come there for a quick look at info. They are not searching for anything specific, but are jus curious about 'something'. Mostly they never go beyond 3 - 4 lines. If the content is really worthy, in that case they stick on longer.

Stumble has been even worse ! The mouse pointer is mostly on the "Stumble upon" button, so the CTR's will be abysmally low.

One way to improve CTR is to provide content, which forces the visitor to stick on for longer than 10 secs. If you succeed, you'll see a better CTR :).

    My 2 cents.

I agree, social media users are probably so tired of information that they don't tend to search the site. However I heard if you use good targeting, you will attract quality readers even from there.

Also what about playing with Adsense feel and look?

Well, I try and have good content, and not to flood the page with ads, as you can see here.

    http://www.griptapethumb.com/

I want a good balance between good content and little ads but still generating some revenue.

Looking at google anlaytics, 45% of the visits have been 0-10 seconds, and around 28% staying longer than a minute.

Thats why a lot of social media traffic is junk traffic, its really never targeted and usually the users are more web savy than the rest so they don't click on you ads.

I see only one ad on your site, and I need to scroll before I see it. Try to add ads in your posts and not only in sidewide.

OK, Well if you take a look now, I have an Ad after every post.

Well I am meant to, but for some reason it is only showing for the first 2.

Anyone know how to fix this?

    And is it better?

    Thanks for the help!

You won't get clicks from stumbleupon or digg. Word on trying to get natural traffic from search engines.

It's only shows first 2 because you cant have more than 3 ad units in your page. You should remove other codes if you have there because you can get banned because of those.
edit to add: it's better now, but you should test and see whats works best.

OK, so the Ad's in the sidebar need to be removed?

Edit - Removed the Ads. Only 3 show however, is there no way to increase this to every post?

No there is no way (if there is dont use it) I tried to say that you can have ONLY 3 ad unit in your page or it is against GOOGLE TOS. So if you have ad code after your every post remove others and let 3 be.... I didnt mean you have to remove ad from sidebar, I meant you can have only 3 ad units in hole page.

Ok, I think I get you. I can have 2 ads in the sidebar (the text ads and firefox ad) then one more.

Basicly, I can only have 3 pieces of google code?

Yes. You can only have 3 pieces of Google code per page. There's nothing wrong with placing more...they just won't serve more than that.

btw the digg community is known for not clicking on ads. What digg basically does it over load your server with a traffic spike for a day or two, then just completely dies

What you need to do is better streamline your ads into your site, that way they appear to be part of the web page it's self. Here is a good example of that which I found the other day: www.articledojo.com
