Vista basic is so basic that no-one would buy it mate.. And Tim its true that many Softwares dont work in Vista( specially 32 bit old softwares/driver) It often fails to detect raid driver..
What does it not have that I need ? Photoshop is soon coming with a Vista version, but does it mean that no one is using photoshop on Vista now ?
Vista has a support for 32 bit softwares.. but miserable support if you ask me.. If you play games, be assured most of your games would not work on vista as desired. But yes if you need to run Visual studio and MS office only then Vista home basic is a perfect solution for you.. Ohh did I mention, more often you will not be able to watch your DVD in any program other than Windows Media center...
i am running the new version of photoshop (trial) on my VISTA Ultimate.. works perfectly without any problem.. BTW: my laptop has the config i suggested for you below..hope it helps.. A Core2 Duo, min 1GB of RAM, 80/160GB SATA HDD, VISTA Home or Ultimate..(dont buy basic) this will be my recommendation.
Get a core 2 duo, not dual core. The difference is that one is 64-bit while the other is 32-bit. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2
uhhu wrong.. c2d is 64 bit processor but Pentium D (Smithfield, Intel's first dual core processor for desktop PCs) is EM64 enabled too.. Intel's first processor with EM64 technology was Prescott (P4 HT 6XX series).. So C2D, Smithfield, Prescott all are 64 bit processors with EM64 technology..
Buy a laptop with 1 g.b ram 80 g.b hdd Dual Ciore cPU 1.7-1.8 ghz Dvd Writer Like 1000$ max or get double at 2000$ Recomanded HP
When comes to buying a PC, what you need to consider as important will be: 1. CPU (now should be Core-2 Dual or at least Pentium-D) 2. RAM (minimum should be 1 GB but if you are looking for performance go for at least 2 GB) 3. Graphic Card (256Mb) 4. Harddisk (SATA or SCSI) 5. Power Supply (450Watt - A good one costs around $120 or more) That is what I will select for PC.
Thanks, I will go for Core-2 Dual, 2GB RAM and vista basic. I dont believe that vista is slower than my XP, my XP is slooooooooooow. And I buy vista basic because no one can tell me what I will miss if I buy it (and also because I dont like MS to get much of my money)
Thank you You dont like it basic, but tell me what I cannot do with basic. I just need the desktop anyway. Are you saying that premium can run programs that basic cannot run ?
Nope.. all the programs that a Ultimate runs, home basic can run.. The catch is there aint many programs as of now that you can run on Vista (I know you will say they will be coming).. the major problem isnt the software, but the hardware. since Vista is a 64 bit OS with a support to 32 bit application many of the existing drivers doesnt work on Vista (even nvidia raid/Graphic cards drivers). even the new Vista Specific drivers are not working flawless. you are not going to miss anything if you are/were a XP home user, but bottom line is you aint going to get anything new either. Vista's one of the most hyped feature is Aero GUI, that you aint going to get in Home Basic. What's so special in Aero? if you have a good graphics card and more than 1 GB ram, using Aero will boost your PCs performance. Aero renders screen using the GPU, so less load on CPU, without Aero, the screen will be rendered through CPU (Same as XP) thus making it slower than XP (Trust me on that) So without Aero, Vista is not much better than XP. if you are happy with XP you've got reason to switch to Vista (Thats me) but if you want to blow your $199 after Home Basic, you are free to do it..
finally! I learn some good things about Vista! I thought it was all flash & chrome but nice to see it actually does something useful! so like for applications, who would benefit the most? video rendering and the like or? i.e. how does that translate to the end user? who would benefit the most?
