Fed-Up with Submitters asking for Refunds as 'NO TOP-LEVEL SUBMISSIONS!'

I'm so fed-up with submissions made (especially by experienced webmasters) to top-level categories and then demand refund cause their site is moved to the deepest level categories. OBVIOUSLY, they do not bother to read the requirements stated CLEARLY.

But what can I do? NOTHING!

Either I get an angry customer or I waste my time reviewing then refunding

Everyone wants to be on a page with PR. What directory are you talking about?

jl255, if its a PhpLD directory, there is a mod available from dargre for closing certain categories for particular types of submissions, he recently made some changes to make it more suitable for certain situations.

Im not sure if it will be your ideal solution but maybe worth a look.

That's strange, because I did not a single complaint about this.
I've had many submissions to top level categories but if not featured I move them to the appropriate category.
I believe that the problem is because you already have some regular links in top categories so some people can assume that they can submit to those.

Also make it more clear that Featured is for top.
See how I did it here: http://www.directorydream.com/submit.php

If you do not want that happening then I would recommend you to move all links out of categories in question or just lock the category :)

Sorry I should have said "Everyone wants to be on a page with PR", that is what I meant. I wanted to see the directory so I could see how deep the categories go.

Since many directories get lots of listings from Internet related sites it can be a problem if your category structure forces folks way, way down.

I have seen one like this: Computer ----> Internet -----> Search ----> Directoires -----> Paid

To help with this problem I have put directories as a top category on one of my directories, so that way folks are only going down one level to get listed.

    Refund them. Done deal!

You shouldn't have to waste time going back an forth. I actually just went through this with 3 emails, and laughed when i was told the 'neccessary actions' will be taken.

So the submitter just received a nice return reply, a refund for the featured link, and a thank you.

    no biggie.

This is where you tell them to learn to read, go screw them selves, go jump off a 11 story building, if they dont have one I do, then send a refund. Then add them to the QBC list for being so smart, maybe even directory blacklist if its a directory, and even write a bad post about this website, how they do business.

Submitters have a role to play there. It is vital to submit to most appropriate catagory to avoid any such problems. Unfortunately many people just don't get it.

Yes we can close top level categories even for certain link type in very easy way. And as written above I gave few examples for certain situations.
I'm always opened to support it if you do not find required solution :)

I have yet to have anyone ask for a refund after they have submitted to any of my directories...

My worst case senerio are those that pay for a regular link and expect featured
    areas or top Categories..

I will definatly be looking to getting this mod installed soon... :)

    thx

It is confusing sometimes from the submitters point of view. I sometimes don't know if it is acceptable or What is that fee for that category. At the end I just submit to lower level or search for another directory.

You can write as many guidelines as you like, the problem will remain. I would think the best thing is to display your guidelines for any given category once the category is selected.

So you will have your general rules for everyone to read and your specific guidelines for certain categories that would appear only if that category is selected. If a submitter don't fulfill the requirements, the listing will not be allowed.

Did I make self clear or what????? Anyways thats my thoughts on this issue.

This is one good reason why I was searching for a mod to ask a higher fee for top level category (assuming you accept links in top categories).

BTW - Is anyone working on this?

Dude just go over to dans forums he got a top level category submission mod for featured links only after i asked him for the same, was nice enough to release it for phpld vault members so basically for 10$ u get it along with other nice mods.

Its working at www.h-log.com if you want to see what i mean. Try submitting to top level category without featured link.

@ jl255 with $10 u get access to other mods also for lifetime, so money well spent. http://monster-submit.com/ is the site if you are wondering.

    Cheers

Unfortunately, in the world of business it is sometimes neccasery to issue refunds even when you know the customer is wrong. Unhappy customers are much more vocal than the happy ones. Principal is not worth protecting if it hurts your reputaion. The worst thing about these submitters are that typically you also spent a lot of effort rewriting their descriptions and titles as they can't be bothered doing any step of the submission correctly.
