A friend of mine owns a catering supply business and as I have been working on his site for him I just wondered is it worth paying for a listing inside sites like Yell...etc

Is there any free places to get listed or any that is worth paying for if you are a busineess? I am trying to do the best for his site so any advice is welcome.

Hi Paul. I think you can get a free listing on Yell, and even a paid listing with a link to your site is only around £13 a month. Tell him not to go for a sponsored listing though - I went for one of those top right hand corner ones (it means your ad will always appear at the top for your area). I think I paid about £1200 a month plus VAT, and have not had one sale from it since April.

If he's targeting a local area, it should be easy enough to optimise his site to get on the front page for Google organically, for something like a catering supply business. Also, it may be worth him signing up for Google Adsense.

I agree with your other points but exactly how does adsense help him in this situation?

    Perhaps he meant adwords.

    I think SHE did.

Thanks Catherine for your advice, I was wary about certain so called offers.
