Hi everybody, I need you guys opinion about "pages impressions". My adsense stats is actually showing me 17 impressions from one 1 website (I use the channel feature to track the impressions and clicks from a particular website). However, I'm also using "Awstats" on my Web Hosting server to track the number of hits. Today Awstats is actually showing me 188 hits on my pages. As you can see, it's way far from the 17 page impressions that adsense shows me My question: isn't Page impression should be the same than Page Hits? Best regards
yesterday, I did the same test....and Awstats was showing me 401 hits on the site...but adsense stats was only showing me 21 pages impressions. Thats why Im confuse.
That sounds odd. Another possibly is that those users have adblocking software. So their hits wont count.
Well, I thought hits were real petite requests made to web servers, for example, shortcut.ico, style.css and so forth, so a single page view may results in dozens of hits. Pageviews is what's more connected to impressions, so if impressions are to be reflected on your awstats log, it should be page views rather than hits. But still, impressions and pageviews are not so easy to associate by a formula or something. God knows how G counts that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, plz.
Yes Yang Yang is totally right. You guys have got the wrong end of the stick: Hits: Every time a request is made to your server Impressions: Every time an ad is shown on a page So for example if you have a page with 30 images and 1 AdSense ad, you'll have over 30 hits from 1 page load, whereas you'll only have 1 impression. Hope that made sense.
Darkhodge and Yang Yang, Its making sense. I need to correct the term I used...Im wrong from the beginning. I wanted to talk about "UNIQUE VISITORS" instead of "PAGE HITS" sorry about this confusion. so let me correct my question: Is UNIQUE VISITOR stats should be the same than PAGE IMPRESSIONS stats?
Still no I think. Visits rather than unique visitors should be more connected to page impressions. So a unique visitor with a unique IP can make several impressions on a single day as long as his visiting interval is long enough.
yangyang is right. If I go to your site and look at 5 pages, it would count as 5 page impressions, but only 1 unique visitor.
Basically: Impressions ≈ ∑ (# Page Views Per Visitor) So if I go to your site and view 5 pages, GolfHos views 3 pages and YangYang views 12 pages, you would probably have around 20 impressions. The only thing which will potentially effect that is if you have more than 1 ad on a page. If you have 2 ads on a page with a single channelID then I'd imagine you'd get 2 impressions per page view. Not sure that made sense but if not just ask
its making sense...okay, lets take my situation. I have actually 1 unit ads on my page. Yesterday I have about 400 Unique Visitors and Adsense shows me only 21 impressions. Don't u think its strange that I only have 21 impressions? 400 unique persons going to my page....so my ad should be print about 400 times....am I wrong?
that sounds right. unless there was something wrong with the ad unit loading, you should have 400 ad loads. Check to see what kind of browsers they were using. It would be real nasty if you had 380 visitors on firefox with adblocker. It would be time to change revenue stream.
Yeah I agree - that sounds way too low for the number of uniques you have. The thing about AdSense ads is it's done in javascript, which can be turned off very easily. The thing is I doubt that many people (380/400) have it turned off. One thing it could be is that they're using a proxy to come to your site and have set it to turn scripts off. You should check your referrer stats to see where the majority of your visitors are coming from. Also as nimbus said expand on the number of revenue streams you have. For my main site I use: AdSense TLA Kontera Affiliates You could consider using some of those yourself
I agree that it is time to start looking at other income streams than AdSense, or at least get some revenue from other sources. For one of my sites I have give and take 4,000 unique every day. Google pays 3-4 cents a click ( not a high income site) so that is 80-90 bucks day. If I put some clickbank ads on it I only need 4 sales a day to come to the AdSense amount, which is kinda' ridiculous, if you ask me. If I make that amount from Google, they probably make 500 bucks or more from my site a day. I'd rather make that kind of money myself and not give it away. The last week the eCPM has been really low and the Page Impressions is never the same as I have in my stats, no matter how you count..... Sometimes I wonder what an accountant would find ...
