Does submitting links to directories work for raising PR?

 

Yes, if your site is listed on a page with PR. Many times you can purchase featured listings that are usually on pages with higher PR.

 

It entirely depends on the directory. As far as I'm concerned, you should be very selective with your submissions

 

just submited to as many as good. they would help to gain PR <fullstop>

 

Only if they have a good pagerank, only a few can claim that

I never submitting my blog to any directories anymore..
for me, it's just wasting my time..
I prefer offering link exchange with other blog..
especially with blog that have higher PR

Yes this help, but of course you should submit to directories with good Page Rank, or Page Rank 0 thinking in the future....

 

The main benefit is the credibility it adds to your website, at least as long as you submit to directories that either specialize in your line of business or incorporate a category for it.
For example, I'm personally always on the look out for real estate directories and have no hesitation in submitting to additional ones when I run/stumble across them.
It's sort of a case of people knowing you by the company you keep -- and the more times you can appear in "all the right places" the better.
As for the PR aspect, though, I think that most of us now know that this factor counts for very little and chasing links to improve it is largely a waste of time.

I have found that directory listings will raise the PR if your site is new and the directory is a high PR directory. If your site is old and already well linked, it will probably increase the SERPs, but may not increase the PR.

 

Directory listing adding value to a website is highly debatable. But without doubt, being listed in a good directory with PR value will definitley add some negligible benefit to the website

 

Of course it helps, but must chose a quality directories and a high PR to.Good luck

 

submitting to many (good) directories help your sites indexed faster and yes they also help you increase your PR.

 

There has been a lot of talk lately about Google giving less favour to sites with too many directory links in their link profile. So its probably best to be careful, especially for new sites.

 

i think you must be careful while you are submitting your site to directories. there are so many people who installs directory to earn from adsense. there are so many spammers.

 

Being listed in a good directory with PR value will definitley add some value.you can find lot of service providers in DP.

 

Of course, as long as the directory is SEO friendly, you can build PR with it.

 

When you are in a niche with a lot of competition, everything counts.

 

Just concentrate on high-quality directories & it will definitely help your PR.
