    Hello DP member,

I understand VISTA has rocked the world but surprisingly I havent seen much VISTA tech talk forums.. Windows XP on the other hand is still being used by majority of users around the world.

The question? what did you find better in Vista as compared to XP. You can post tany tips and tricks as well. This will help us know some good/bad about the Vista

    Thanks

Who says its a failure.. All major companies have moved on to Vista.. its has great feature and better security than any other OS existing today.. even Linux fails to prove its credibility as compared to Vista in security.
The OS is more stable and you dont see any more blue screen of deaths.
Excellent backup features.. web hosting features.. This is what i have experience with the VISTA OS running on my laptop..

would you like to add more..

    let the thread rolling..

I'm still using win 2000 (on my main comp) because I think XP makes everything too "my first computer!!11!!1 lol!!!!".

Vista is not compatible with anything, and win 2000 + XP come with IIS

Who said linux is that secure? it's (originally) open-source

VISTA ultimate has feature you will die for.. i am having a snipping tool to copy paste any thing from my desktop and save it instantly as gip, jpeg, bmp etc.

i can run a movie on my desktop... YES... desktop.. in the background.and can still see all my desktop icons..

Linux is open source agreed.. VISTA is not.. ITS SECURE..

VISTA is compatible with all applications you run on 2000 or XP.. it has new file system completely re-written from scratch.. a 1000 MB files get copied over a network in 2 min and 45 sec max (tested) as compared to 2000/XP which take more than 5 minutes.

I've never used it, but my brother has and he said Vista is very huge, cos they put a lot of graphics in it and didn't enhance its security..

Vista is only useful for people having mainframe like Machines.

    1) Its faster than XP only when you use aero interface ( that's because it uses GPU to render the screen) if you GPU isnt powerful enough, you will be forced to disable the Aero, thus switching the rendering over CPU, making your machine slow as hell...

    2) MS's early software gained popularity because of piracy (believe it or not).. More people used them because it was easily available on affordable price( Pirated) but MS made virtually impossible to crack Vista, thus cracked versions are not as good as the Orginal versions (even as better as XP) So not many people ran to buy it..

    3) People got disappointed when MS failed to deliver much hyped and awaited entirely new file System, winFS

    4) Windows Vista Basic is so basic that no one would buy it..

    5) they added tons of feature that not many people actually need

These reasons, and many more forced people to not to buy it..
I have licensed version of XP and I am not going to buy Vista at all...

If it is popular, it is popular within a limited and specific no of users..

He's a uni student, hehe. And if you love Vista it doesn't mean that everyone else does too. :)

As for me, I love the graphics of course, BUT if I have to change my storage map (cos Vista is huge), I better stay with XP. :D

Yes, I have used it and I must say I thought it sucked. They tried to make it sooo pretty for noob computer users like my mom and grandma, but they slowed it down for programmers and gamers. I just built a machine for my mom with at least 2GB of memory and a 3.0GHz+ processor and it takes 5 minutes to boot. And to install anything like Norton, be prepared to sit, and sit, and sit waiting for it to finish. Took an hour to install norton on her machine, took the same disc of norton and installed it on my XP machine (that is half as fast) and installed it in 10 minutes. Installed it at work too, so I could do some testing of our programs and it was super slow there too...

Yeah?? but why Dell switched back to XP, when MS is well known for forcing the OEMs shipping their latest eyecandies??

BTW where did you get your stats from about the sales and profit?

I am not switching to Vista ( I have used it beta candidate, as I am a member of MSDN) unless they integrate winFS into it..
As of now Vista seems pretty useless for me to spend my hard earned money..

I don't know. it probably is, but maybe the upgrade is not good enough on the previous versaion to tempt people away from the XP.

Ok That looks like a problem to me.
Norton.. was it packaged with the OS.. run msconfig and do as mentioned in the picture i attached.. check the Box "Hide all Microsoft Services" in the first picture. Refer each service name in Google/Live and stop those which are not rated as recommended..

same in the second picture.. remove all those which are irrelevant..(google/live)
next.. reboot VISTA and see if how it loads.. i am always here if you need any help..:)

    1. Snipping tool is available for xp too.
    2. If you want to run movie on your desktop BSPlayer will do it in XP. Awesom
player btw. And yes you can see the icons and use the desktop normally.
    3. I have had huge problems with vista ultimate, it hangs and freezes and i
got core 2 duo processor, 4GB ram and 8800 Nvidia. Even when indexing is
taken out i have serious problems. I had to uninstall it cause it was freezing
ever 10 seconds for 3 seconds. No viruses either.
    4. DRM is horrible feature, read about it.
    5. I will never install vista, ever again!
    6. I have nothing against MS products and i like XP very much.
    7. There is just no feature that you can't have in XP.

Seriously, Vista is a shit product that will affect me and you negatively in the
future if you will support it. DRM is just crazy! I will never install that shit on
    my computer again.

Not really.. whats your machine conf like.. my purpose of all this info is to let you know that i dont have to install any thirdy party application on top of my operating system to screw it performance..

if your VISTA ultimate hangs.. i would like to know if its a new PC/Laptop?
if your Hardware is going against the HCL (Hardware Compatiblity List) i can understand why you complain..

also, did VISTA came packaged or r u using the evaluation version?

Um, yeah in which DREAM of yours? Vista is compatible with hardly anything. If I moved to vista half my programs would have to go (and don't give me this 'vista can run any xp program' rubbish because been there done that and it didn't work. Oh yeah, and no more BSOD. Instead it just freezes and you end up restarting it.

200 million users already? Doubt that. And oh looky here... and article which shows you just made it up. Clicky.
Now because I know you are going to yak on about how they sold more copies than XP, read this article.

LMFAO. Yes Yes Yess you are right. Every single person in the world owns 5 copies of XP. That's include all the babies, all the elderly, and all the poor people who can't even afford food. Damn, give it a break.

That's like saying the corner store has had more sales because of an increase in shoplifting.

It would feel like a huge hole in my bank account for very little improvements. I use this which gives me everything from Vista which I want.

Oh yes bro. That once useless address book is still.... useless.

Bad "The Webmaster" for being rude to yourself! Go blow $500 on an OS you don't need!

Personally I would prefer a navman, a new phone, a nintendo wii, or alot of other things over Vista.

    EDIT:
Exactly! I can get any program for XP which makes it 'Just Like Vista'. It's not as if they are exclusive, or programs using brand new ideas that were included in Vista.
