Niche: Finding & Saturating a Market

I'm relatively new to web-development & marketing (under 1 year) and was wondering how many people here have found a niche they believe they can work with (enjoy, understand, market, & write about) and have developed 5+ sites? 10+ sites? More? within this niche.

I guess it depends on the niche how many sites are necessary (how much competition is out there) but I'm really curious how many people out there have at least 2 sites revolving around the same niche and what sort of insight you have concerning this practice.

This is a tactic I've just come to embrace and was looking for any knowledge gained from experience the more seasoned webmasters may be able to provide.

    thx

Why would one want to divide the efforts (especially the backlinks) among 2 different sites within the same niche ? I think most find a niche then try to develop a single authority site around it.

This is waht some people do. Some people create several sites on the same niche but having slightly different material. I think this is often because many people like to write on what they know rather than having to do too much research.

    Possible scenario -

    Site A brings in 200 visitors a day...$50/day
What if you had 10 site A's? $500/day
Of course, you would need to keep up with the quality and know how to build these sites correctly.

Imagine dominating the entire first page of google results..

Brokenspear, I own several such sites and I can tell you it is a good strategy to apply. Just remember not to overwork yourself and to provide good things for the visitors as well. Combine the strategy with list building for maximum profits.

    All Best,
    Ana

    Hi there,
One of the tactics I use is a hybrid idea of what you're wondering about and what's been mentioned in the answers. I develop one main site that I focus my active marketing towards and several smaller sites that focus on sub niches and get passively marketed.

Here's an example. If I wanted to market to the shoe niche, I'd have a main site like shoes.com then several mini sites like tennis-shoes.com, dance-shoes.com and baseball-shoes.com I'd actively market shoes.com and passively market the others using social bookmarks, and PPC.

    I hope this helps.

    Enjoy your day!
    Terry :)
