What sucks is not making profit. :) PHPLD already has its time and new scripts are being developed. If you try to look at the market and make assumptions programmers, designers, template coders, directory owners are venturing to profitable new horizons. Heck even PHPLD has some issues on its script, Site Sift is not that perfect but its nice to use as well as esyndicat and indexu and all the other scripts out there. At the end of the day its all about the prosperity of each individuals and the availability of tools that can be used either being developed or available.

    :)

    @Obelia
Your entitled to your opinion. I respect that. :)

    Thanks

As a coder iatbm I would agree with you, there will always be pro's and con's for both opensource and encoded, it really depends on what you want out of a script. As a programmer I dont like restriction but when I bought the script I decided to based on features already there and not with the view of messing about with it. When that time comes I will no doubt move to another script that allows me to do that.

The important thing is to remember that most directory owners have little or no idea of coding and its them that are more important than us coders, I can alway live in hope that one day they will open the door for though as I'd love to get my mits on it. :p I reckon I could improve on it.

For the moment though I can live with the encoded bit as long as it has the features I want and it does. :)

phpLynx powered Directory - coming soon.

I use a custom script. But that doesn't mean I'm not interested in using a different one, so long as I can play around with it.

Security through obscurity is the weakest form. Just because you may not be able to see a hole in a script, doesn't mean that some determined cracker couldn't find one.

But it's not only a question of whether the script is secure, but also about being able to verify it for myself, and knowing that other people can do the same thing. Opening a script up to public scrutiny demonstrates a certain level of confidence in it.

    Well my take is this...

This looks like a great script with much potential...

Having the right coders and adding mods will enhance it and become one off the better scripts on the market.

A script can always be improved for the better as new ideas and technology comes about with time...

Regardless I wish the owners and supporters continued success

    thx

For the Technically Dumb like us this is the right script. Try the FREE one first and let me know how you liked it. Nothing to lose there.

And you just have your NO.51 directory. :D

no matter what the concerns it has to be a good development to have other scripts on offer
directory owners will decide if it will succeed by using it

It would be good for someone with so many other directories under thier belt to be able to comment as its all about learning for them and for us. :)

Well, popotalk says he's technically dumb, but I bet I'm dumber :p What's cool is that more directory scripts are coming to the market. Competition is good for the customer, complacency turns to innovation and everyone benefits.

I kinda think popotalk ain't as dumb as he says, he's doing a hell of job with templating the scripts and is one of the first to get on board with the phpLynx one which in my books is a pretty shrewd move.

Yep I agree the more scripts the merrier, will boot the complacent one's up the arse and this can only benefit the end user. :)
