Ive tried both. Earned the most from DP so far but when selling a site on SP i didn't get payed by the winning bid which was of a huge annoyance.
DP has been good to sell and buy stuff. Lots of opportunities here. For some reason I see SitePoint as a place to make bigger sales (like selling established websites) - although you can do that via DP as well. Bottom line: both are good, so why not use them both?
In SP you have to pay to get your sale thread listed there. In DP you don't have to pay any type of fee . So obviously DP Is better then SP -- DarkX
As usual a thread like this becomes, "DP is the best", "Nothing beats DP" etc type responses. People, read the original post before answering. WHY do you think DP is better than SP for online business? The original poster did not clarify what type of online business he was talikng about. Was it to do with website design? Selling Goods? Selling services? Selling websites? There is a lot to the term "online business". My response to this is that if it involves anything to do with programming a website, than SP is the best hands-down. Anyone who frequents both sites will be able to confirm this. Selling services, then DP is probably the better place to go to as there are more providers of different services here I believe than on SP. Selling Goods - Neither is the best. Both SP and DP are equal here. Selling Websites - SP wins this easily. You will have users here who say DP is better because it does not charge fees etc. I simply say, go to SP's marketplace and you'll see sites selling for tens of thousands of dollars. I've seen a site sell there for almost $60,000. I had a quick look right now and saw a few sites selling for over $10,000. Now check the DP marketplace - it is pathetic compared to SP. Seriously, just check out DP Sites for Sale right now and compare it to SP Premium Sites For Sale or SP Established Sites For Sale Both DP and SP have their strengths and weaknesses. As a webmaster, you need to use BOTH of them to your advantage. Your loyalty is to yourself so never limit business just to one place - that is stupidity.
You have to pay - but it makes the threads a lot more believable and trustworthy than here. I mean, by all means DP is great for online business, but if you want to sell a site, I would automatically goto SP simply because their marketplace is of a higher quality than here. I'm going to get so much red rep now... Oh well.
i've had a bit more success on DP than on SP selling my services or a site. the people seem to be a bit more idk honest you can say. i've gotten scammed in a way on SP with a site i bought. the seller didnt even want to give help without asking for money.
I find DP better for buying/selling links, advertising, content type jobs, but the marketplace on SP seems better for selling web sites, and I prefer their contests section if I ever need a logo or design done. I think the fee in the for sale section means that only serious sellers use it, and that means a lot in terms of higher quality stuff on sale.
