After interacting with so many of you on various levels for business and recreation, I've compiled a list of 5 traits I feel that many of the current successful directory owners possess. Although you may already know it, but there is no harm reinforcing it again for everybody's learning and sharing. It is found on my blog on Linksfactory: http://blog.linksfactory.net Feel free to disagree (or agree) via comments here and on my blog. Cheers.
A very well written post indeed. Although I think more factors can be added but the first two (and last one) are MUST if you really want to be in Directory business.
tks alot. Of course, alot more can be added, but out of a list of 12 traits i shortlisted, i found that these 5 are most important, which is why i listed them. If you (or anyone else) think that there are other traits NOT listed but MORE IMPORTANT than these 5, do yell and i'm sure everyone will be interested to debate
I consider all the tips to be same for a directory and even a "normal" site in the end. Very useful indeed. I would add: unique layout (even if it's a directory, it needs a unique look), some links alredy added (people don't like empty directories) and a very easy way to add links (no account needed, no reciprocal links, prefferably free submission). Some time ago I also created an article about a good directory (after getting fed up with many directories myself): How to make a good directory site We have to thank you for the excellent article
Even excluding directories, these are definitely traits and characteristics for success in any given field. Overall good advice for whatever the endeavor.
actually, i don't think these traits are necessary for all types of websites. Due to the specific nature of the directory business, these traits are essential. For other websites, some of these traits may not be as critical as others that are not listed. For example, there are some sites that are more independent like proxies, and interpersonal skills may not be as important. But tks for all your confirmations guys! these are NOT TRAITS! These are techniques or skills.
Very good information Thanks, How hard will it be for a wanabe directory owner when he is not looking to good at two of the five in your list, and has a complete and utter lack of interpersonal skills
That is a very intelligent and useful blog post. Well written, concise, grammatically correct, and useful information. I doff my cap to you and my cursor heads towards the scales.
The first and last points are very very important!! There is a poverb which states that if you have paitence you will rule the world one day!!
