I check the pr of internal pages , if it is a dropped domain then the internal pages don't have any pr.

Why do you think your research is stupid?

And yes, I have had a few hits from the iwebtool' tools, also get a few from whois checks.

    I look also at:

    -quality of backlinks
-how many ads are on the directory?
-are backlinks to the directory increasing or decreasing (is the owner working on it or not? )

Good point, but who knows who is behind half these directories, everyone seems to go under different names? Who knows who they are kind of thing, history is probably a good thing to go by, the history of a directory owner I mean. :) PR, Alexa and gimmicks are a waste of time as you probably know.

Why is the directory owner important? How can I know how is he?

Directory owner is important because his/her deeds in past will define the future of the directory s/he owns. Its essentially the owners credibility and his/her approach in promoting the directory.

I am not clear on your second question:confused:

Sorry, I'm not so good in English. How can I know who is he? Should I always contact him/her before submitting?

Best way to find is to use this:
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/search.php

BTW: There is no need of contacting the owner beforehand, unless you want to submit in bulk and you are looking some discounts;):eek:
