Because there isn't enough of time in a day to show all the missing children. And the Madeleine McCan case is just... hyped.

This is going to sound really heartless, for which I apologise, but it's a fact that the media forget quickly about missing children. A family's tragedy isn't seen as newsworthy when there are so many other families sharing their predicament and there are so many other things going on in the world. There's an old addage that today's news is tomorrow's fish and chip paper (not that fish and chips are wrapped in old newspaper any more, but you get the gist).

The Madeleine case is being drawn out for a few reasons. Firstly her parents, both highly paid doctors, have enough financial backing and influence to tour the world and keep the story in the public eye. Secondly, little Madeleine was abducted from abroad - very, very rare. If it was just Mr and Mrs Average who had abandoned their young daughter and twins in an apartment as they went on the raz it would have been forgotton already.

Thanks for clearing that up. I had thought it might be a money think but was hoping it was not the case . I suppose that being abroad does change things a little.

Thanks for the response, repped (EDIT: need to spread the love first)

I agree with you Glen but media is there for one reason and that is to make money and if they covered thousands of stories on missing children a day, they would not draw the audience that one little sweet child might draw. Media feeds media and if it becomes popular than everyone jumps on hoping to cash in.

I would like to see every child get the same coverage and have an equal chance but how often do you see a poor black child or an unattractive child or a lower class child get the media attention? Almost never because the media uses totally what sells, sweet little white middle to upper class children that the world can feel sorry for.
