    hello,

im only a newbie to this forum...but i have read you guys for a awhile and consider this forum to be a very good source for feedback.

i have been thinking about .us.com domain name extensions and realize you can get some good key words...but is it going to provide any value?

do you rank quicker in searches w/it ?

    would it be recognized?

    etc,etc,

    cheers

us.com is a centralnic's service and many providers adopted their services as part of the extension availability
Fair service, don't expect big resale value but it's ok if you want to build a website on it

You are getting a subdomain from the person who owns the us.com domain. It could be good for marketing and recognition purposes but won't help much in search engine rankings.

.us is hardly worth registering right now. .us.com is not very appealing.

How do you came to this conclusion ?
subdomains are treated as seperate domains and gain good search engine spots for many years now. I used subdomains for many customers to optimize their rank and so far worked great

What's the different if you are getting a domain from a firm that owns the us.com rather from netsol or other registries ?
centralnic is online for ages and works great

If support is good my vote goes to all these providers of 3rd level domains

The OP asked if it would rank quicker vs other extensions. I said it won't help much. It's neutral. The main determinants of ranking are content and backlinks. Not the extension.

Yes, you can build a successful site on a subdomain but the downside of a subdomain is that you cannot complain or get help from ICANN, the registry or the registrar if you have a problem.

I agree subdomains are neutral, as standard domains. There is no difference to me.

That's why i said that a good, solid company with clear business plan and premium support needed for this kind of service

I agree that you have multiple layers of protection with standard registries but there are cases that you can loose domains even with this protection as the case of registryfly taught us. Rare yes but let's tell it to some thousands customers with their lost domains

Bottomline what it matters is how the domain serve your business purpose. If it's better than standard .com they why not ?

.us is the 17th most registered TLD right now while .us.com is nowhere to be seen.

If there are some good keywords which should be registered in it then you might want to take some risk. But if you are getting a .com or a .us for that keyword then just go for that version of that domain.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my money on buying us.com names as all the good keywords that might have any value are already taken.

Did you know that by buying us.com names, you are actually getting a subdomain? The owner of us.com is actually selling subdomains. Wish I owned those names as I'm sure he's making nice money selling subdomains

Technically even the .com.net.org.info..... all domains we buy are subdomains
    They are subdomains of .com
We used to say subdomain all names before the .example.com however each dot states a subdomain
Registries sell subdomains that baptize them domains
    The use the .com / .net / ..... as their name base , centralnic use us.com / uk.com .....
Centralnic does the same with one more level so he sells 2nd level domains when registries sell 1st level domains

"In the Domain Name System (DNS) hierarchy, a subdomain is a domain that is part of a larger domain. For example, "example.com" is a subdomain of the "com" top-level domain (TLD) and "www.example.com" is a subdomain of "example.com". In fact, the "com" TLD is a subdomain of the root domain, ".".
Relative to a subdomain, the larger domain that it is a part of is its parent domain, or alternately superdomain (the former term appears to be preferred by the IETF).
A subdomain is sometimes termed a vanity domain, especially when it is a subdomain of an ISP's own domain aliased to an individual user account"

.us.com is actually a subdomain, and not a top level TLD so its not of as much worth as a normal .us because the owner of us.com CAN virtually control your subdomain.

Even i will agree with you regarding the price i must say that regarding control what change is the name of the firm
In the .com you call Verisign in the .us.com CentralNic
It's not more risky to have a us.com rather than a simple .com

GoDaddy for example can take your name without explain much (www.nodaddy.com) or registryfly.com can close and lock your name to the oblivion

Generally what it counts is the quality of the company providing these services. No matter how you want to call it subdomain or domain they both act as URL reference.
.us.com was long before .us and covered the absence of gTLD for USA

Centralnic has many more countrycode.com names and as i see they are going great

    good discussion guys -

so if you were to get a really good keyword as a .us.com would it get preference in the search engines? im mean, does .com over ride sub domains in the search? or is it according to seo content and traffic etc etc...

for example - domain name [gold.us.com] is it as valuable as [gold.com ] does .com take a certain preference in the search engine?

do search engines like these sub domains?

example if someone types in gold into the search engine does that keyword retrive your site? or is it all based on other things like content page rank and etc etc...

is there any value to a one word domain name with a sub domain extension -

what would you do with gold.us.com

Gold.us.com is no where near as valuable as Gold.com. In fact, I wouldn't even buy it.

From an SEO perspective, I don't think it'll make a difference what extention you own, as Google treats each subdomain as a seperate name in the SERPs, although, I've never seen a us.com extention in Google
