How do you feel about bio sites?

How do you guys feel about bio sites? Like, I am thinking about making a site about a pro athlete..I would love to make some money off of adsense, I would not expect much of course, but it would be something fun to do so that wouldn't matter to much..I would be happy with $.50/day. I was thinking of doing some of my favorite players. I am just wondering if it is even worth to make one..I would advertise via sports forums/sites,etc and any other way I could think of..Thanks

If you build enough of them and the advertising is subtle, I'd say go for it. They should be fairly easy to link to from other sports sites.

If you can invite professional athelet to add good suggestion and guideline to young athelets, it will be big plus for your site. :)

Maybe get interviews. That would make great linkbait.

maybe you should make videos of athletes speaking on various topics and giving suggestions and tips. Users will definitely dig it.

Many people have fansites dedicated to their idols. You could open one too, but you need to ensure that your site has that extra something which the other sites do not possess- special pics, little trivia and stuff like that......

Well, I am not sure about how much money you'd make but it's a great thing to have as a resource for others and to make yourself happy.

The reason why a site with Biographies wouldn't make much money is because people looking for Bios are usually students doing projects, and those people never tend to click on the ads or use them.

At the same time, Biographies is usually something you read once and don't come back to unless you are really eager to find even more information.

Google also would bury you deep into their search pages, as there are encyclopedias and huge archives of biographies owning up the front pages of google searches.

It's a fun thing to do, but profit-wise, I don't think it would be very successful. However if you love it, do it. GOOD LUCK!

That's a good point. When you go to build a site/page, think about who would by using it and why.

As to monetizing bios (or a site around one pro sports figure), your best bet will most likely be finding items about the person that you can sell.

For instance, if you do a bio/site on Roger Clemens, get links to anything he's autographed, his jerseys, gear of teams he's been on and so forth.

I wouldn't rely on something like Google AdSense, because the targeting will be pretty poor and you're going to have to do a much better pushing job to see income.

You might get 3 cents a click from them and a lousy CTR to boot, so 50 cents a day might be a tall order.

For extra kick, incorporate a blog and talk about stuff that pertains to that figure, such as last performance, personal news, latest product reviews and so forth.

Hope that helped. If I tell you any more, I'll talk myself into build the site. :)
