Hostagator - ThePlanet

I have been using hostagator for a year for one of my sites and have been recently until we have hit some database load issues due to increased traffic. As per their request, we upgraded to a semi- dedicated account. This process and some mistakes on their part meant our site was down for a week.

This lasted about 1 month until their again suddenly turned off our site and said we had database load issues. Our site was again down for a few days as we streamlined our code, removed features and turned the site back on.

2 days ago, the site was again down , one of our folders permissions was turned to 000... no email to explain, their live support doesnt know what happened and their tech support sent an email basically saying, I am not sure what happened but the 'NOTES ON THE TICKET SUGGESTS that it was some load issue' - HOWEVER, you should upgrade to our dedicated servers which may solve the problem.

AS you can understand, we are a bit annoyed at this stage so considering changing hostings as our site is still down. I can't take their total unconcern of our site and lack of support any more. They wont even give me log files so I can see and solve what the problem is.... well I suppose that because apparently they dont know why they have turned off my folder permissions.

We are considering the dedicated servers on Theplanet.com .... anyone have experience with them?

    Thanks and advance.

    Matt

Ever since their merge with Ev1, their support has gone downhill and is still spiraling downward. I would recommend going elsewhere.

    What's your budget?

Budget isnt too much of a problem, I could go for their dedicated or other companies but I really need a server that won't give me too much trouble.

Actually since the post, and an email basically telling them they dont have a clue .. They turned back the permission of the folder and sent this

Access to the files in question has been restored. Please let us know if you run
    into any other problems.

Again not explaining why they turned off my site for 3 days or provide any logs. I want to reply to this with.

'If you don't turn off my site when you feel like, I wont have any problems.'

Actually I'm pretty sure hostgator is hosted with ThePlanet, so if you bought a dedicated server from hostgator it would be at ThePlanet, I've heard some good reviews about them.

The HostICan VPS is good and spry has also some very good VPS deals. Most of the time a VPS will do if you move from shared hosting.

xenyo.. guess this is the worst it can be to dedicated server.
    totally down for month.

i would recommend to choose only giant hoster.
which need to keep a good reputation, and having hundreds of staff standing there to assist you.

i checked my list, and think hostgator and lunarpages, server is good quality, with good support. Hostgator have live chat.. advantage here.

If budget isn't an issue, Softlayer is an excellent dedicated provider. :)

Seriously, if budget isn't an issue and you need a "trouble-free" server go with www.rackspace.com They're the best out there.
    Also, www.softlayer.com is good.

Another option would be to go with a combo of "layeredtech + PSM"

I know, HostGator is just a reseller of ThePlanet. ThePlanet doesn't provide managemenet, HostGator does.

I am thinking of putting more sites on them.

When does one look to go to dedicated servers I have about 1000 unique visitors a day should I be looking at that now?
