Well thread title says it all.
As we are normal human beings -there is bound to be different thinking/outlook among us.

Many directory owners value Traffic --rather than the PR factor. According to them Traffic from SEs is more important.

So where do you focus while you promote your directories? One must NOTE that - I am talking about people going for excessive traffic --not normal. ( 150-300 uniques per day is normal)

I go for PR -- PERIOD.

i would say they are both equal

you need traffic and most people only submit to directories that have pr

Ofcourse yes -- I said 150-300 is normal. To me thats the uniques I need/day. I'll be happy if I receive 200 uniques and get 3 submissions rather than 3k uniques/day with one submission.

So the poool is to talk about traffic in access of 300 uniques.:):)

I would be happy with 50 uniques and 5 submissions a day.

Traffic is really only important if it is targeted. With a high PR I guess you would be getting more submitters so that would be better.

I was making around $300 a month on a directory with only around 60-75 uniques a day.

So why didn't you vote for PR:rolleyes:

lol --thats exactly what I also think. If you do not have AdSense or Affiliate programmes --huge traffic won't bring in much.

On the other-hand 100-150 targetted traffic may give ya huge revenue.

"If you do not have AdSense or Affiliate programmes --huge traffic won't bring in much." - I think a web directory would have to have 500+ uniques a day to make any money on those and even they I bet the amount would be small.

    Hello..

    I would favor Traffic....
many webmasters follow PR so both are equal to an extent..
But "Traffic" brings higher numbers to the equation which Brings the better odds of making $$

    thx

I agree with metal head over there, traffic is better then PR, nothing beats good traffic, not even a PR, id rather have happy customers (recieving traffic) rather then the ones waiting for a google update so that they can see a change in their PR.

All of you were talking about making money from traffic

and none even cared to say that better traffic means more exposure to sites listed on your directory!

I would say traffic is important

as it is the one thing that will drive directories for decades!

It s not about making money from traffic it's about getting exposure for sites listed on your directory ~ It should be the ultimate aim of the directory owner!

I would have to opt for traffic because in our traffic tracking when our listings get viewed and they click through to that respective site, the site is assurred of a quality visitor

We have sites listed that get click through traffic and conversions, those type of feedbacks build confidence for the listings

So would have to say traffic is very important :)

PR you would need to fill an encyclopedia writing on all that PR stuff;)

Hehe, try telling that to the half dozen people out here with expired pr6s as directories.

No traffic, but still a PR, there you have one scenario.

I think the keyword here should be 'targeted' traffic, you want to get folks searching for sites via keywords in your directory and you want to get webmaster folks looking for more exposure and promotion for their sites. Tons of traffic don't mean anything if the person stays for 4 seconds and does not click on anything.

    True.
But the only reason ive ever submitted to any directory is after ive seen their google results, and their alexa status, alexa is the only stat i can get on their traffic unless their owner wants to hand over some awstats :p

Either way ya look at it, traffic rocks more, no dir can get pr on their categories in less then 2 google updates.

    I often say this but,

ROI > Quality Traffic > SERP > PR

It's possible to skip SERP, even though that will ignore SEO, because directories can generate money from other sources.

I do focus on PR a lot though because that should be your primary advertising tool as it does attract people.
