    Hi there,

I just started my first serious blog, so I want to gear it up a little with some fancy plugins, like you big guys use :]

What plugins do you recommend me to install? I need to SEO my blog, a toplist for commentors and maybe a list of the most poular posts? Are there any plugins that does this?

Anyways, if you know of any other great plugins I must have, feel free to share (but leave a little discription on what they do)..

heres the top commentators plugin: http://www.pfadvice.com/wordpress-plugins/show-top-commentators/

I also suggest dofollow along with that so that users get links without the "nofollow" attribute: http://www.semiologic.com/software/wp-fixes/dofollow/

I also like the feedsmith plugin from feedburner which transfers your subscribers there automatically (feedburner is good if you want stats about your blog): http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/help/wordpress_quickstart

There are many more good plugins, but it all depends on you and what you prefer. Other plugins I am currently using are: share this (social bookmarking) and google sitemaps

    Hi,

I would say that the two must-haves are Akismet and Google Sitemaps. Other than these, I would recommend using plugins with some degree of caution for two reasons:

    1) Backward compatibility: Plugins often create problems when upgrading. There is very little testing going on and you are more or less at the mercy of the plugin developer.

    2) Plugins that access the database can create security holes.

    Good luck!

Agree with rich that those are the two biggees.

I just put together a Akismet walkthough, and would love to hear some feedback on it.

I like the walkthrough. Since this one of the most important plugins to install (I have no idea why Wordpress just doesn't make it part of the core), it would be nice if your walkthrough is made a sticky so all new WP users can see it. The process isn't that complicated, but many new users could probably use the hand holding. Great job,

my choice of plugin would be:

-gravatar or myavatar (essential if you're not worrying about it juicing your bw)
-sticky post (great for featuring my main post)
-alex king popularity plugin (niffty stuff love it)
-genki annoucement (my news network for visitor..hehe)
    -get_recent_comment/most commented post
-page_nav plugin (optional if you got zillion of pages)
-Ultimate tag warrior (not quite handful with this)
-and of coz the wp-cache and wp-db-backup come in handy also

that's what i'm using in my site right now..so far great job maintaning my post..:)

Sure is -- plugins are a great way to hammer a server. Never install plugins that you don't need.
