My wife has a Mac Mini. I have a custom built PC to work on and I have a custom built computer running as a server that we can store files on and I run a few sites off of.

It isn't necessary, just a want. And it's always cool to have friends over to play each other on an online game :p

personally I need one of both...I do a lot of traveling, and I take my work with me. Plus, I have them networked at my house, so if I need to be doing two things at once, I can be.

no you don't need too many pcs if you work on those alone! but then am planning to setup a few more pcs so that my staff can work on them.

also i need a better pc for watching videos and movies, and a laptop for travel outside! though for one person one desktop and a laptop is sufficient.

    Personally, PCs are cheap now.

I have 2 at home, a desktop and a laptop. At this end of year, I want to buy another desktop for games. :D

oh I forgot, I have an old crusty laptop so my number is 6!

but like someone mentioned what if you need a backup. What if your PC goes on the 'fritz', then you'd be left holding the bag and for a webmaster that can never be a good thing!!

1 Desktop for personal use or for home works.
1 Laptop for presentation of project on appoinments outside.

So I guess 2 is enough.

My guess is if you need it and can afford it then you should go for it.

Laptops and desktops are a neccessity for the business community.

If you are a game freak you have to go for a dedicated gaming machine.

Their are thousands of games and applications (Really cool ones, I run GPS car Navigation on it too, for example) for it. It used to cost 999€ but you can get them cheaper now :D

I think so, even though my laptop has a smaller HD, it's what I use all day & at school. Desktops are nice for the cheaper rates, and being faster.

But for self-use, having more then one desktop and one laptop doesn't make much sense to me, unless used as servers, etc.

I've got 2 desktops, I use one as a workstation and the other as a server. It's a great setup, I highly recommend it.

    It's totally necessary!

1 desktop and a laptop (for home use and travel use) and also a server to chuck extra crap on as well as use as a web server for testing purposes.

That laptop thing is pretty hectic, never seen those before anywhere.
