OPEC pressures the West over bio fuel

Discussion in 'Politics & Religion' started by Arnie, Jun 6, 2007.

OPEC warned the West that the price for oil will be skyrocketing when the West concentrates on biological fuel production.

They argue that there would be less investment done for exploring new projects then and therefore the prices will be skyrocketing.

Regardless of their warnings, it is the way to go whether they like it or not.;)

i think with new fuel cell developments that electric cars will be coming round sooner than we think.

the problem we have with that is capacity

as soon as a battery can store enough power to manage a 300 - 400 mile trip we should see some good developments.

plus the recent finding of using aluminium and gallium combo to create the reaction with water to create hydrogen should give good advances with hydrogen based travel.

i think the future is oil free. but i disagree with our government that it should be nuclear.

there is enough wind to power the world yet we create possible disasters to power our world. i find that incredibly stupid.

people complain about wind turbines yet if you gave them the choice of either a wind turbine which may fall over or a nuclear power plant which could turn your pretty little village into chernobyl then i think we would see a lot of free energy from the wind power.

They are not fighting for oil now. Unless you live in a fantasy world of conspiracies, that is.

Sorry its not just oil, its oil and control of resources of third world countries. The soviet union and us did it during the cold war and its still going on by most world powers. Its how its been done throughout the centuries and its how its still being done now.
Allready presented the iraq war evidence

    Where's the oil?

Actually, I countered your Iraq war opinion (opinions are not evidence) and you never responded. You were talking about the misleading article that said saddam wasn't responsible for 9/11 when the discussion was about ties to al qaida, correct?

See here for difference between opinion and fact.

pingpong123, is right about US and USSR, both were like hungry wolves, if anyone thinks that troops can be sent for the "democracy" or something else to a different country, well then they are NAIVE.

I'm glad Russia don't act that anymore (Afghanistan, etc.), time to stop for US too and stick to your own borders.

Yeah, right. As if Putin isn't resembling the rule of Soviet dictators of the past. You don't have to have troops in place to meddle in affairs of the world, just send your KGB creeps around the globe and they'll take care of whatever problems come up.

hmm, are you referring to Litvinenko now ?

What a KGB agent does ? Do they kill people of other countries by thousands making the rest of the ones who manages to survive "democratic" ?

I would REALLY want to see the US reaction, when Russia places it's base in Cuba with them missiles. I wonder what it will be like. Plus, we can say that we are trying to help cuban people to get into "democracy" ;)

If OPEC threatens us we should dump them like a bad ex. Ditch them on the side of the road and flip them the bird while their suitcase explodes into a brilliant array of clothing after being ripped apart under the back tire of the car.

The whole situation proves us that OPEC nations are in troubles, having oil as the only source of income is not enough.
Those countries need to wake up and integrate into modern societies whether they like it or not.

The West can overcome a temporay rise of oil price, but if the OPEC nations fail to adjust then they are just going to be a side note in history.

On the contrary , oil prices will fall sharply.

If biological fuel can be produced profitably on a large scale, the demand for crude oil will start going down.

Even if the OPEC countries try to hold prices by reducing production , non-OPEC producers (who would want to get rid of their oil at high prices) would start dumping oil in the markets to take advantage of the temporary high prices.

The result would be - more OPEC tries to cut production, more would be the supply from non-OPEC countries. Finally OPEC would no longer be able to hold prices and may even disintegrate.

Well, the news in SC lately is that they are building an E85 plant in eastern NC...so look for the price of oil to actually come down here. At the same time, farmers are rejoicing because E85 takes a never-ending supply of corn. And with so many new vehicles capable of running E85 (about 15 I think in GM's line alone) that should really help things out. I have been running E85 for a while, its about .75$ cheaper than gas, although I do lose a little mpg and some hp.

Incorrect. You've posted opinion, as always. When I correct your opinion with facts (as I did once again, above), you almost always choose to ignore it, citing "everyone knows" as your evidence. That's really sad, ping. I would have thought you were a better person than that.

Moving away from oil is the best bet, then we can leave those Muslims countries that like to export terror & oil to go broke:)
