Recently I got a very good offer for all of my directories from one of my client. Apparently the offer was good for me ,I did some calulation , and found if I wait and do more works , within shortly there will be more than he is offereing . I leave the idea of selling , keep all of them , start working more with my team
Given the right price, I would definitely sell them. They are not my main business and I prefer to concentrate on my best preforming 5-6 sites.
For some people there directories are just too much for them, they've developed strong emotional attachment with e'm, they are the're Baby's.... and no one sells there baby's right?.... BTW unless or until you have a very strong reason such as Financial problems , selling your directory is like selling your Baby.... He is born, you take care of him, grow him up, develop him and at last YOU SELL HIM???? No way for me atleast!
I dont think I will sell my directory in near future.. But if some financial crisis arises, OR I have to leave webmastering - Then I may - Hope that never happens.
My motivation to build a directory is different It more like an ego factor of owning one of the most popular sites on the internet and would like to pass on the legacy to my family So it is a never for me, however, if the directory business model is viable i might start and promote directories for the sole purpose of aking them a sellable product
Couldn't have said it better myself. Some just don't know what their price is until the offer is made.
I will only sell if i get the right offer. Few month a go i did try to sell one of my directory so I could invest the money on the new directory but did not get get the right offer so I did not sell it.
Sure... but it has to be the right deal... not the $3k or less offers I get for an 11 yr old 3 letter domain... (it would cost more than that just to update the email addresses).
I was impressed to see how google purchased youtube. In future if google, yahoo or microsoft will be interested in my directory then i can think of selling to one of them
I do not have plans nor I would like to sell Dream Directory, since I have really big plans for it. But then again, everything has its price. So... who knows...
Best Web Directory is not going anywhere for as long as I am alive. For me, its not just a directory, its my first step into professional life so nahh, I am not gonna sell it for money.
Honestly, this is a ridiculous question. If somebody with deep pockets came along and offered anyone of you millions for your directory, you'd take it. If not, you are either a liar, or stupid. Nice - your first step into professional life is ripping off the name of an established site, and throwing up a similar model. Good luck to you.
linguist, this not a thread about dreaming to sell your site for millions. Everybody here knows that sites are sold for 8-12 months of their revenue. And I see most are not interested. As far as I am concerned, I can't let go my sites because if it can be sold for any amount it means that I can make that in less than a year, if I don't need the money so badly and I still can manage the site, why would I sell it?
Not sure if I would ever sell my directory network. I was going to before but then I made a script to make my life easy. Think it just makes too much money for no work to ever see getting rid of. But of course if the right offer comes along, who knows.
A dream is a pie in the sky idea. A goal is a actionable game plan. Do you have dreams for your business, or goals? If you don't have goals that would drive your model to a valuation of millions, why bother? Go back to your 9 to 5.
Really? Which valuation model does that employ? Most deals are done based on valuations of EBITDA, and depending upon your industry, the multiple is typically between 5-8 times . At least that's how it works in the real world.
did you read my post? sites cannot be sold for more than what they are worth unless the buyer is stupid or day dreaming like you. Edit: OK now you read it and double posted?
If I ever did think about selling it would have to be to someone whom I consider to be very good at marketing, someone who can push the site to a higher level then where I have taken it so far. To just give the directory away to someone who has alot of money would not be a good idea to me. I have worked hard to push my directories and therefore I would want someone to take over who can keep the name alive and not just let it go down the drain.
