I have a keyword at number 4, gets about 20 aday.
yesterday, it got promoted in Yahoo, and got 100 an hour for the same keyword. Interestngly I never saw a change from position number 4 in new York state, but it went mad from visitors in California and Texas. Hopefully a sign of things to come, and if not then at least I know what I can look forward to with a little jump up in the SERPS.

Is anyone here familiar with how yahoo does their updates? On all my sites traffic went WAY up from yahoo...it seemed to stop around 12:00 PM CST or somewhere around there after looking at the logs.

Are they likely going to be switching back to how it was for those 6 hours or so? Meaning, was that 6 hours when we all experienced high traffic going to be sticking permanently...or was that just a road bump on their way to updating the algo?

Don't hold your breath. The update has likely settled by now.

So you're speculating that the 6 hour-ish time period yesterday morning when everyone's traffic went BAM!!! was a one-time thing?

Those SERP's were very spammy. Scroll up in this thread and you'll see...

Y! SERP's have shuffled again. I wonder why this update is taking so long to settle down?

I could be completely wrong, but I've noticed that Yahoo SERPs continue to shuffle several weeks after the major update - usually on Thursdays with minor reorganizations following these "aftershocks".
