Microsoft is number on for op systems because no one else is in the market to compete. SUre, ther is linux, but there are hundreds of branches of linux insuring that none of them ever make it as a main stream desktop os. Open source software is great, but it can't compete in an example like this.

Windows is dominating the market because of the great hardware support and user friendly interface.

Actually it's not a joke. Google now has an office suite online. For the OS it would not be hard for them to use Linux as the foundation for there OS.

Exactly. Who made MS DOS and Windows 95? Microsoft. 95 was a big improvement over other things available at the time.

Microsoft bought all rights to DOS from Seattle Computer Products, and the name MS-DOS is adopted. Let's get our history right.

I think windows is good and practical for the PCs, but unfortunately most programs by other companies work only on Windows, thus making it a necessity.

Lol? It would take more then a great OS... Lets be honest Apple >Microsoft. So much more stable... If OS X could run on a pc I'd be using it in a heart beat.

is Vista supposed to be more stable than XP or just 'more secure'?

I know some will argue XP is plenty stable for them but it has been a real PITA for me @ times.

You don't get why? I'll tell you why..

If you try to use it for anything constructive, the crap freezes and gives you a BSOD or "illegal operation" box. Microsoft can't seem to make a working, bug free operating system. One of the "Pros" on Cnet's review page of Vista "Ultimate" is (quote) "Fewer system crashes". lmao, I had Windows for a while and I can truly say that making the switch to Mac was amazing! I've been using a mac mini running Tiger OS X 10.4 and it has been flawless from the beginning. Windows is crap compared to OS X. More people are starting to realizes this. I have no virus protection and not one virus, worm, trojan, etc.

Vista is even worse than the already terrible XP, especially as a memory hog. I've heard stories of people with 2gb of RAM saying Vista is slow. I have half a gig on mac and works just fine.

lol my point exactly. I have yet to see one of the newer macs crash. In the 90's, I will say that Mac was worse than Windows, but you have to be retarded to think that Vista is better than OS X NOW.

sadly it's true Microsoft Dominates, and I doubt there will be any other OS that will ever come close to this, even if somehting better comes out, right now Microsoft's Reputation for "Normal Computer Users" is awesome, ppl who don't have much computer knowledge think that having "Intel" or "Microsoft" is best, which is true now but a while back AMD was the best thing out, But EVEN after AMD's rise in the cpu industry, ppl still think Intel is the Best and same goes for Microsoft it's because of the long years of good reputation, so I doubt there will be anything as popular as this in the future..

You have to give it to Microsoft that there Marketing Department can sell anything. Microsoft may not innovate but who needs to when your marketing is top notch.

That's interesting since my friend runs Vista fine with 512MB of RAM (half a gig) and it runs almost seamlessly on my computer with 1GB of RAM.

I have no intentions of switching to Mac, yet anyway, Vista is pretty stable. So what if explorer crashes occasionally, it doesn't crash enough to really bother me.
