    Hi,

Can you tell me why your directories are unique apart from the niche?

I found your sites quite difficult to read. Why are you using a courier style font? The directory blog is not completely unique.... e.g.

    http://www.avivadirectory.com/
    http://www.avivadirectory.com/downloadblog/

I don't mean to be harsh, but if I am giving out free links, I want to make sure people want to hear about it too!

    Thanks!
    Dan

Thanks for considering these inter-related directories. They are somewhat unique because they are not just another reciprocal link directory. We carefully review every site and and many cases provide one way links to businesses or organizations that serve the seafood sector.

In the case of the commercial fishing site, the directory is provided to allow commercial fishermen the ability to find the services and products they need. The seafood directory works in a similar fashion for comsumers and others connected to seafood.

Bottom line is they are primarily intended as content, not just a way to get links. Both projects are under a year old and we hope to see a continual explansion of listings until they become a robust resource for the people that need this information. The worldwide demand for seafood is definitely on the rise so we are hopeful that both sites will be around for some time.

In technical terms there is nothing out of the ordinary, both directories are kept as simple as possible with a focus on ease of use for both submissions and for the users.

The forum post was about "interesting" directory things. Somewhere it changed to "unique" directory things.

Unique can be completely uninteresting; and
Interesting can be completely non interesting.

For example, the courier font hard probably unique, though far from interesting.

I don't find your site easy to read with the blinking stuff all over it.

And not being harsh in return, but free links are given out all over and if yours are so special, you need to make that a little more clear.

Can you clarify your original post, are you looking for "interesting" or "unique" or "interesting and unique"?

Courier text is known to be hard to read, part of interface design 101. Fixed widths suit code, but are not so good for normal text.

Erm, what site? and What blinking?

The intention of Directory Spy is to let people know about interesting things going on in the directory world. I get contacted very frequently by people wanting a free link to their directory from the blog, which 9 times out of 10 is no different to any other directory. Directory Spy used to be well known in the directory world, but admittedly, I have let it slip lately. This is why I am doing these news articles. The emphasis is on interesting, or interesting and unique.

You are spot on, unique does not mean interesting. However, I've seen a lot when it comes to directories, so if something is not unique, typically I don't find it interesting. Interesting points though, thanks for your feedback!

I would love for people to tell me about their directory projects and why the projects are so great! Surely it's not that difficult?

    Thanks
    Dan

Unique .... Interesting ... it all fits!

I believe I'm doing quite a bit on the cutting edge with my directory. Of course, being a very proud parent, I am quite biased. The link is in my signature but I have sprinkled some direct links to features throughout.

User managed content - Write about your subject directly on the page your listing is on. No login required and spam gets converted back to good content in seconds as I get notified after each update.

EADitor account - Register and get credit for the editing and creating you do to the directory. EADitors get freebies like featured ads, sponsored ads & if you are a top EADitor, you will get a homepage link

BuyAKeyword - All this content that is being created opens up a possibility for some awesomely powerful natural links. Buy a keyword and anywhere that word is used in the content of my directory it turns into a 4 word keyphrase ... more info

Free Web Directory List - That EADitor account I wrote about above is tied to this feature as well so you get credit for evaluating directories. The system also keeps up with your submissions and will soon print (via PDF) your submission successes for yourself or your clients.

Pretty skin - While I started out with stylevantage skin (thanks styleshout) I have evolved away from that with my own unique look. I hope you will agree that it is very soothing to the eyes.

There is tons more that makes this directory special (like AJAXified drag & drop link sorting), but most of it is behind the scenes stuff to make it run smoothly.

Thanks for the podium to allow me to beat my chest a bit.

Having spent a few minutes on your site, I got confused very quickly. I get the impression that you are trying to offer a lot, but its getting lost in the detailed explanations. Perhaps you can find some ways to produce a summary table, or "what you can get if you do this" type diagrams.

I consider myself to be of average intelligence, but if I'm getting lost, how many others of your visitors are? I'm just trying to help! :)

hope you can consider two of my directories

www.ventedoy.com is first bid for position directory using blog platform, wordpress.

www.daredirectory.com is a pay for position directory, where you can choose where you want your listing to appear.

Yup, it's a top service. Already use it for 2 of my sites. Please PM me the URL(s) on your site you want me to link to. I can recommend this service personally! :) What name of the company or person should I refer to?

Yup, I've already sent you a PM regarding one of your sites I might write about, thanks.
