Yes, customize the template, with the default header it's really overused. That light green text is hard to read, make it darker and I would increase overall font size. Include a little graphic in each of your posts, makes reading posts more appealing. For SEO, fix your Title tags (post title - a few keywords - then blog title) and you might even want to change the <h2> tags put around single post titles to <h1>.
