my company is starting to get of the ground. have any of you all tried using billboars around your city. if so what were the price range did it help out any let me know your experience
i've never tried billboards, would be expensive i guess. dollars spent on printing the billboard, getting a team to put it up etc.. those dollars could have been spent on ppc advertising. depends on your niche though. if you are mass market then maybe a billboard.
Not sure what you meant by Digital Billboards but the real billboards you see around town are very expensive so unless you have a huge ad budget don't even bother looking into it. If you notice most businesses that advertise on the big billboards are major names and they do it for branding as opposed to generating immediate traffic.
billboards main purpose is to plant a seed in your mind. Big companies use it along with their other methods such as tv, radio, print media. If you have ever seen something and you think to yourself, ive seen this before but I dont know where, it might have been a billboard.
I am currently running a Vacation Rental company our site is currently under construction but still can get a view of what i do at http://www.premiumbeaches.com
Billboard advertising is share-of-mind, reminder advertising. It's strength comes when used simultaneously in conjunction with other advertising media. ownacondo.com has used billboards and radio successfully Do not do billboards by themself.
As a few have said before, billboards should be used only to plant the seed in someone's head. If you decide to use them, make sure to keep your information as simple as possible. Imagine driving down the highway at 70 mph and trying to read a billboard filled with information and a phone number. Not many people will have the ability to write your info down. If you have a website address up there, make sure it's easy to remember on the fly, but don't count on getting any hits. Most will have forgotten your billboard by the time they got to work/home. Vibrant and discernible imagery, LARGE basic fonts (Helvetica, Arial, etc) and KISS simple. Also, don't expect a noticeable ROI for many months, if you can even track that info at all.
When I see a digital billboard, I'm more interested in the graphics and how many advertisements they can post. Seems like a good idea in theory, but ask people stuck in rush hour traffic that will ultimately associate the billboard (and if digital, along with other advertisers) what they remember about the billboard. "I know when I reach it, I'm only 10 minutes from home on a good day". I don't know. If I want to find something, I go online. If I'm by an airport and I'm a tourist, my eyes are glued, but by the time I hit Disneyland, that ad is long forgotten. I really think it depends on the type of company and Location. Nike or Ford can surely get away with it (especially if they have a store at the next exit), but can Mike's Footwear or Jim's trucks? I don't find it likely. No offense, just don't think it's practical for most businesses...but fun to watch!
