Hello, Everyone know .com are most valuable domains followed by .net. but where will you put .in domains?? how good or how bad .in domains are?? I really don't know how to know the worth of domain extensions? Many thanks in advance.
.com .net. .org .mobi .us .in this is my order of preference. (i saw this thread somewhere else also )
Extension does matter sometimes but not everytime It all depends on how hard you work on it Take Example of Amit's Site : Gii.in
IMO .in domains are overvalued. If .us didn't really pick up; in spite of the fact that US is a bigger market (it has more online users than India) and US users are the biggest spenders on the internet, how can anyone expect .in to become valuable? It may take a decade or two before .in domains start commanding a premium. At present .com rules. .net and .org are next in line. All others are not of much value. (not referring to edu domains which only educational institutes can register.)
What about .edu, .org, .gov? I believe those are more valuble then .com address (hence everyone trying to get backlinks on .edu sites).
Thanks for replies. But i really don't understand why you talk about markets?? Most of you are tending to say that .us are better as us market is bigger and .in will take more time as indian market need time to grow upto that level. When we are working on net, it seems that whole world is market. so I don't get the point of market and domain extension. How they are related? I may sound as I have zero knowledge and it is silly question, but I have this doubt.
The domain is only the first step in a long journey. I say anything that has REAL English words, structured like real language is worth more. EX: newcars.com is worth more than carsnew.com. If you look at any domain long enough it will start to look valuable, and you can come up with all kind of scenarios in your head that you think makes it so. The bottom line is, it's all about what YOU can do with it, not what the previous owner did. The odds of two people having the exact same skills is slim. You will find that almost everyone wants a good domain, but rarely do they have a realistic budget, or knowledge of it's capabilities. Also a lot of "newbies" lately are buying for the "Cool" factor, yet lack the marketing skills or budget to take a "2.0" style domain and make it the next "Squidoo", or "Yahoo". Therefore they have a name that only forum members , friends and family will ever look for or type in. By plain English domains, you can't go wrong with words that the majority of the population know, and use. Regardless of extention.
There are two reasons for it. 1. Search engines send country specific searches to ccTLDs. If you search google.co.in and select the option "pages from India", you will get results with .in, .co.in and other Indian ccTLDs (along with general TLDs like .com). Thus .in are more popular than .gh (Ghana) or .mt (Malta). I have a .in domain which does very well in "pages from India" searches. If I were using .gh or .mt, I would have lost all that traffic. 2. Indian companies will choose a ccTLD if they can't find a suitable general TLD. Many Indian companies already have .in sites like IDBI's www.paisabuilder.in and www.indiaplaza.in (formerly fabmall.com).
Alright!! I understand the logic a bit. The argument of search engine placement is correct but search http://www.google.com/search?source...F-8&rlz=1B2GGFB_enIN215IN215&q=internet+index gives gii.in on 9th position & competition is 838,000,000. (some talk about gii.in so I use this in example) Hence, The conclusion is: .com are really better than others. But if one works on any tld domains then he can fill the gap. Yesterday, i purchased two .in domains: www.hee.in and www.neat.in I don't know what to do with www.hee.in but I have planed to have general web directory at www.neat.in (Neat Directory). hope you'll suggest me some more ideas for these two domains.
For normal search, Google doesn't discriminate with any TLD. Only when a user wants results from a specific country that ccTLDs may get little more weight.
Yep, that is perfect. Also, I don't think indian market is far behind. i have many indian customers who pay me my regular price. Personally, I feel that I have taken good decision by grabbing these two domains which have premium letters and one is dictionary word. What do you say?
India is growing fast in terms of user base, but the lag is in actual online spending. Indians still don't transact much on the internet (compared to US/Europe) Howver, in last few months, I have seen many more Indian firms advertising online and trying to establish an online presence. The Indian e-commerce market has just started to pick up momentum. It will take 5-10 years more to mature. IMO, just investing in .in domains won't fetch much rewards, but those who actually develop these domains will surely benefit.
I don't think that you can buy a .edu unless you're an educational institution or buy a .gov unless you're a government
I have some .in domains. I think they fair better than the .co.in domains. GetLaid.in twit.in Simplyhire.in Planning to develop them or sell off on a good offer.
