It works like this. 1. You pick a topic that you like and then write a "lens" about it. Write this like you would any webpage. Put in good links and information. I have one about H.P. Lovecraft in my signature. Well, I guess there is really just one step . Money-wise, Squidoo shares its adsense money. You will receive a percentage of their profit depending on how well ranked your lenses are, and on how many visits they get. My little PR 3 lens gets maybe 4 visitors a month, but it is highly rated. I get 50 cents a month from it (and I have been paid already, lower your minimum payout to a dollar, unless you have a premier paypal account). I've heard really good promoters getting $15 a month from a lens (which means that it really isn't worth a good promoters time). What it is good for. They are supposedly ranking pretty well and this would be a good link for a website. Specifically, you can get a nice backlink from your squidoo lens and use it to help your main site. You can also make money from affiliate sales inside the lens. They have a lot of tools that make it easy to setup. They have pre-made windows for amazon, itunes, and cafepress. Squidoo is one of the best way to get traffic to your main business. I'm not thinking on it in order to get-paid to write, but it is super-good to get traffic to your products and make profits with them. Same case if you use affiliate products... Squidoo is almost similar to blogging but instead of making blogs you are making lens. It's a nice way to drive traffic to your site especially if your lens made it to the top.
I see Squidoo is a way of driving more traffic to my site. My lenses all rank high on Google for their targeted keywords. I was quite surprised how high they ranked in just a few weeks at most. I can use Squidoo to get traffic from keywords my site will probably never rank for.
I think thats the only reason. In terms of money, its not really a driving factor for anyone creatinga lens.
It's a great link building tool. Just make sure you produce QUALITY lenses. What's a quality lens? 1) Informative. Not just a backlink farm to your sites. 2) Worthy of sharing or bookmarking 3) Compilation of helpful links with short descriptions OR wikipedia-type entries
