These offers are not usually a 'I pay now - Earn later'.
The people who offer money per posts want to develop forums so that other potential users will see the forum is active and register and contribute.
It's more of a small investment to build up the forums from scratch.

Does it work usually? What are the chances of failure?

    Many thanks! :)

That you will have to ask the guys that actually pay for these services.
For each his own success tho.

I find that forums are difficult to create and to get started. It's a real catch 22, which is why people would pay for posting on their forum. No "real" posters will join unless the forum is active, because it's simply a waste of their time, and no paid posters means that no one will join. So paid postings get everything "started" and then depending on how many posts people made, you would eventually make it up down the road. As forums are all really "free content" for you, their not too much work (besides maintaining) and the rest would be profit. You'd really only need to worry about bandwidth costs (not much for a starting forum) it all helps...paid posters just "prime the pump".
Not sure if that made sense, my brain isn't thinking on a straight track today.

I'm running the same service on my forum and the truth is you cant expect much of it. But being a new forum, this will surely boost your forum and attract more people to come. It will help you build more content and increase quality posting. I'm not sure about pagerank but hopefully it can contribute some good effect on the pagerank if you are just starting up on the forum.

All in all, personally i think it come down to what your forum is all about. If it capture enough attention, you will get an active member who share the same interest and will keep on supporting the site. In another word, just like a website, you need to find a good niche for forum too.

    Cheers!

actually, paying for post is like one method of promoting the forum. it doesnt matters weather the money comes back or not, but its definite that you are getting new members and new posts and new threads too. and if you have good amount of discussions then dont you think that other people will get interested on ur forum..?

    Yes...
Create a forum is an huge job and...you must have PASSION to manage it.

Do not think to start a forum just for the idea to make fast profits. A forum is a real passion, believe me.

I have done a few of these jobs. I know that most of these forums make money off of their advertisements so while posting i'll keep an eye on the adsense. If there is something I am interested in it, i'll click on it and take a look. This isn't against the TOS as I will only click once, maybe twice and i'm not doing it on anything other than stuff I am interested in looking at. But I do hope that in most cases the person that brought me to their forums got their ROI (Return on Investment).

What some of these people do is pay for posters.. make it "active" and then sell of their forums for much more money than they spend getting those posts in their forums.

It's ann an investment and a risk though.
