Does Google update their SERPS daily, or at least often? Or, does Google do a major update periodically (every 3 months like PR?), and minor adjustments often (daily?)?
It could be a matter of quality. If you have nothing new for 3 months you're sh*t. Therefore I have to agree they change SERPs often. I think it's real time but who am I
The reason why I ask, is that we had a site go from 200 pages back to about 2-3 pages back (in Google). We woke up this morning and were happily shocked!
No, SERPs update a couple of times a day at most, but as for the algo, I see minor tweaks once or twice a week usually, and big events (Florida Update, Big Daddy, etc) usually come out about the same time (from what I can tell) as PageRank or Backlink update (couple of times a year at most). CassieMarie, I know the changes you are talking about, they seem to be loving a few of my sites as well, but as far as I can tell it's only on a couple of datacenters so far: http://hk-in-f104.google.com/ (64.233.189.104) and http://nf-in-f104.google.com/ (64.233.183.104) are the two that I see. -Michael
Google updates their serps continuously - we have that from Matt Cutts Himself. Algorithms change when they change > don't think there's a specific schedule for it. What's continually done is updating info on backlinks and (internal) PR. As for the google toolbar PR: that's updated every few months.
What's weird, is that when I started this thread there were several sites I know of (I saw it with my own eyes) that went from nothing to page 1 or 2 in Google, then poof, they were gone again. I couple of these sites are mentioned in this thread.
Yeah, a couple of my sites majorly shifted with this one. I thought it was just a huge penalty, but it's just the homepage that is affected, and it's almost like the serps inverted, not just a penalty. 1 phrase that I haven't been able to make any headway on jumped 700 spots, while my 2 main phrases dropped to the last page. Go figure. I've seen this before though, it does happen. This isn't a minor shift though as far as I can tell, looks like some pretty big changes, and they don't look like individual penalties, but rather like maybe a change to the overall penalty algo. The sites of mine showing the biggest changes (some good, some bad) are all ones I haven't done anything at all with in a while, so waiting till the dust settles before fully evaluating. Often times these things come in waves. -Michael
i think serp is being updated daily because the main criteria for the serp is backlinks and if G contines to crawl new pages, it will find new backlinks
The results change constantly....as for algo updates....Google does it whenever there is something to fix...I'm sure minor changes are done weekly and then major changes such as Big Daddy and Florida are done when needed
Google updates its' algorithm every time you make it to the first page, and then they do a major update when you reach the top 5.
Umm... I gotta know whether or not you were kidding before I agree with you. See, I actually do know how that feels... but I'm a little worried that you might have been serious. -Michael
