Ive heard alot of talk that buying links is now bad.....does this go for directory listings that only allow paid or featured directory listings or is this just buying a text linkn on a website.
I don't purchase directory links anyway so I'm not worried, plus I only buy links that will also give me traffic
There is a difference between buying a link just to have someone link to you, and advertising. Humans can tell the difference, but I don't think Google will anytime soon. Until that happens, I would only spend money on a link that would directly send you traffic.
IMHO, Your long term link buying strategy should be using paid links only for advertising (and consequently drive mote traffic to) your website. Thus i recommend you to consider buying links in relevant pages instead of buying exclusively in "featured" listings. My 0,02, Gili
Some owners are now justifying their prices as ''review charges''. That is one way people are going about it
Well Google has certainly scared alot of webmasters out of buying links But they cant really tell what is paid or not unless the paid links are really obvious.
Google can't say if you buy a link on a site or not. In fact I think they don't even care. They are just bluffing and pretending to be God, but that's just b*llshit.
Google isn't going to penalize a site if it sees what it considers to be paid links pointing to it. First of all, because that would violate the general principle of not letting the actions of one site damage the rankings of another site. They don't want to create a situation where a competitor could damage your rankings by buying links. A couple of Google employees who have spoken on this issue have said that it would be the site selling the link that would be penalized to the extent that its ability to pass PageRank, trust, and other signals would be eliminated.
The problem is not buying links. The real problem is buying (or even acquiring for free) links from sites that have nothing to do with yours. As always, make sure that links to your site come from relevant sources.
I think it would be easy for Google to have an idea whether or not a link is paid or not. Places that I think Google will first begin to discount would be sidebar links and site-wide links. In addition lists of links on the bottom of pages are usually blatant ads. And if you’re placing your ad in a box with the word Advertisement above your ad . I think it would be quite easy for Google to knock out 75% of the paid links and quite frankly I’m surprised that they haven’t done it already.
This subject has been discussed many times (and i am glad), many mentioned what the problem is and what it is not. The fact is, you can purchase links for traffic purpose and not to trick Google's PR algorithm. I have wrote an article in regard buying and selling links after the Matt Cutts post on his blog, to make simple to understand for those that have doubts in regard of buying and selling links.
Hello You guys still havent figured out whet the man said? Please see.... http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/how-to-report-paid-links/ The issue i think is clear that the main issue is sites buying links on high PR sites with the intentions of raising PR rather then advertising Web directories have not been affected as matt has examples and such so as to understand better what was said during the first Post... Q: Now when you say “paid links,†what exactly do you mean by that? Do you view all paid links as potential violations of Google’s quality guidelines? A: Good question. As someone working on quality and relevance at Google, my bottom-line concern is clean and relevant search results on Google. As such, I care about paid links that flow PageRank and attempt to game Google’s rankings. I’m not worried about links that are paid but don’t affect search engines. So when I say “paid links†it’s pretty safe to add in your head “paid links that flow PageRank and attempt to game Google’s rankings.†thx malcolm
Google frowns on buying links, but i don't think they can police it properly. Most likely they will look at the most obvious link sellers. Sites that have high pagerank and authority that could impact the SERPs would be targetted. My advice is, if you buy links, buy from sites that are related to yours. Avoid sites that sell a ton of links and sitewide links.
1. Incorrect " If web directory as its done per review" 2. Correct ...PR-8-9-10 3. Relevent sites <--- thats a given As for sitewides he makes suggestions of how to curb the habit.. thx malcolm
Every link you have helps in google also the bought ones , google only blacklists a few sites and i dont think you were planning on bying links there ! and even then there is no harm done ! because you cant control who backlinks to you , else yo could easly undermine your competition in google so every link is good but i wont pay for a link thats from a PR5 or less estimation : 1000 PR0 backlinks = same as 5 PR5 backlinks Forgot to say: If you link your site to a blacklisted site in google you will get penaltilized !!!!
I would i submit to free directories as well as a few paid reviews as the Quality of the directory comes into play sooner or later and those of quality are indexed every couple days. If your last statement is correct the i would assume that you think that site will never reach PR5 which is getting tougher so you might not be getting as many links as you might think... thx malcolm1
