What are the general requirements to achieve a PageRank?

I apologise in advance for asking such a seemingly "micky mouse" question.

I'd just like to know how I go about achieving a PR of some description. I have a few sites, varying in ages from 1-5 months that are still at PR1.

I have read somewhere that it goes on things like backlinks, popularity, Google ranking, domain age.

Well I have seen sites that are behind mine in all these characteristics but they have a PageRank.

    Any insight is appreciated. Thanks,

    Paul

PR is directly rtelated to backlinks. You need quality backlinks to get a higeher PR. The PR of the pages linking to your pages matters, the number of pages they are linking to also matters. if you have a few hundred high PR links pointing to your site, you would end up getting a good PR.

The PR you see on toolbar is updated roughly once in 3 months. If your links are relatively new, you will have to wait for some time. Age of the site is a major criteria in getting higher SERPs, you need to be patient.

LInks, links, links. And if the pages that link to you have few outgoing links, you will get more link juice from the page.

But I have a site that have 3300 links in Yahoo and still is PR0 so Google also have some secrets.

yep as the others said either wait for your site to become good ranking in PR or else buy a already good PR domain or blog..

And try focus on page itself, it is not said that PR is given forever, so even domain with good PR can loose it.

as said by other frds .. to increase PR of your site you need backlinks pointing towards your website and that too quality backlinks...

can do directory submission and go for article submission for gaining backlinks.

On-page factors have no effect. PR is a result on nothing except backlinks and the PR of those backlinks.

Don't worry about PR though. It's a minor factor in a list of 200+ factors.
And that is real PR, Toolbar PR is not used at any point in the google algorithm.

If all you want is Pr then just get links...but getting higher PR will not neccessarily equate to higher rankings

In last months PR update Google made some established websites PR0, maybe to discourage link selling.

Well, you can achieve a pagerank by getting good and relevant links to your web site. Also,, keep your website updated constantly with new and unique content and you'll get a pagerank eventually.
