is it legal to reuse images from other websites, or is there a possible place for open source images?
As per the 10 posts a day on this site, no it is breach of copyright. You must get express permission from the owner of the copyright (who may not be the site owner) to use the image unless you know they are distributing it without copyright but the only way to tell if they are is to ask them - a lack of a copyright logo does not mean something is not copyrighted. Everything created is automatically copyrighted by the creator (with a few exceptions in some places for items made to order) and they must explicitly waive their rights to the copyright. Generally the best thing to do is to buy stock images from the likes of fotolia or istock which gives you a royalty free licence to use (but not redistribute) the image. For web suitable sizes it is normally us$1 per photo.
To reuse an image, without the copyright permission of the image owner (as the thread which is presently within the first 15 of the legal issues forum said) is illegal. You can get some images off of wikipedia, as some of them do have copyright that allows them to be used freely, however you would need to read the wikipedia small-print, as many of the images on wikipedia do not.
i guess..if you intend to use pictures..then go for Royalty free art...these are free to use..and reuse.. although there is a license..but its different unline others...
I guess I need to write long posts so even YOU can understand it. What I meant to say was his use of the word reuse for his intend to steal images is funny.
