Directory Submission - Is it worthy?

I am trying to expose the website http://www.webcosmo.com Its a free classified ad site.
Currently I am spending about 250/month on google. That gives me some visitors, which is paying off. I get abpout 100-150 visitors per day.
Then I tried stopping advertising on google just to see how it does without any advertising. I got about 50 visitors per day. So thats pretty much my actual visitors. And of course thats not much promising for a 4 month old site.
Now I am thinking of directory submission. I hope that will give me some traffic. I dont have much idea what kind of directory is traffic generating, where can I get a list of such directories. Is it really worthy? Appreciate any suggestions.

Nope. Directory submission is completely worthless and we just run directories in this forum because we like wasting our time. The best bang for your buck would be word clouds.

Most directories won't bring you direct traffic but it will help you rank better for keywords related to your site thus bringing you more traffic long-term. My opinion is take 4 months off from adwords and invest the $1000 in quality directories.

I would also suggest you try one of the submission services that do the submits for you to 'free' directories. They are generally lower quality sites but can help increase your back links. Several people offer it in the link sales section.

Yes directories are very good at increasing your traffic. But you wont really get traffic directly from the directories, you submit to directories to increase your sites rankings in search engines.

So look through your traffic logs and see which keywords are sending traffic, then submit to high quality directories using the targeted keywords.

    This is a proven strategy.

Take a look here for some high quality directories.

Lol --what a Joke:D Give him a chance maan. He seems inexperienced and fell into Google trap.

    Very well said.

Yes-IMHO- Directories will not send too much direct traffic - but they will help you greatly in indexing your site with major SEs and also give a tremendous boost to your SERPs result.

Just think this way -- how long could you sustain Google Ads? Look for the future -- if you have a monthly budget of $250/month for Google, put together 4/5 months of that Ad budget and list on some high quality directories. They will push you on SERPs ladder --and you will get permanet organic traffic.

What they say are pointing you into the right direction. I used to be like you spending money on Adwords and other ppc.. spent a lot more than I m now. Saved money, and now getting more and more free traffic from Search Engines and it is accumulative, it has the residual effect compared to Awords, your payments are for one off function, get traffic to come in and go.

SEO, link-development can help you get ranked for related key terms in the SEs. Therefore get you more traffic accumulatively.

There are a lot of ways you can get targetted backlinks. Directory submissions is one of them. So take your time and browse thru this forum and see what is available and see what is most appropriate for your budget.

    Hope this helps.

ps. sorry for the links, they are mainly for SEO purposes

It is worth if you want to increase traffic from search engines. Directories will probably not send you a lot of traffic.

If you are getting good ROI on Adsense I would say that you should continue it but maybe with half of you money. With other half start building links to your site.

I didn't get the feeling he was getting a good ROI on Adwords, just more traffic.

I guess you should do a test to see if you earn any money without adwords and how much you earn with it. Then make a decision based on that.

Some ways to get traffic from directories:

    -- Get Featured Listings...
-- Buy banner ads on directories
-- Buy top listings on BID for position directories :)

    Regular listings wont bring traffic

as a matter of interest, how are you ever going to get any money back from this venture, a free classifieds in the USA ?

    Have you a plan ?

I am guessing you mean to imitate that site, the 800 pound giant off that sector

    Well...

The directory at this "moment" (as its evolving) has one or two main purposes and thats to build your backlink count as well as your PR level so that you can naturally reach top spots in google and other engines...
Submitting your site to QUALITY directories will result in your site reaching and in most cases beating out the competion for the common terms in your field or industry.

If it were me... then i would spend a few bucks on some good Deep Linking Directories that can offer your inner pages a jump for key terms as well as finding directories that have your category and offer PR ( Page Rank ) in that relevant category..

though their are some that still do offer a little traffic they aren't much and probably just the competition looking you over in most cases

    thx

I have a website about 3 years old and I have never bought any listing or submit it anywhere. I have PR0 and No visitors (except me).

I created a new website this year bought many listing from high pr directories and I beginning to see traffic for many keywords from google. For each month traffic is increasing, but since it is a new site, google might not give the credit it deserves.

In my opinion, it will help you increase traffic specially if you have unique content. It will take time, but it sure will pay off at the end.

Thank you so much all. I am gonna do it. is there any list of some directories.

I intent to keep it free as long as I can afford. I can make money easily from other sites, for example a e-commerce site, using the reputation I may have on this.

Are you from Mars? Who told ya that--where did you hear that?

Most certainly you heard that from a BLOG by a self-proclaimed/self-declared SEO expert:p

Read what Matt Cutts ( please refer the first post March 12 update) says specifically for paid reviews by Quality web directories. Please post again after you read that. I hope --by then you will get acclimatised to the planet known as EARTH.:p
