Your thoughts on this new directory.

As some of you may already know I launched a new directory called keyword-pages.com although the site is still in development I wanted to get it going and indexed as soon as I could. The directory is free to submit to and will always be free. It was built using the indexu script and I did the design and logo myself.

This is the first directory I have built using a script. It does not have a whole alot of features but the ones it does have I think are pretty good. What are your thoughts about it so far? Like I said, it is still in delevopment and some things have been left out on purpose for right now, such as featured listings and the sites of the day which will be displayed on the home page, I'll get those up in about a week or so.

Is there anything else you guys think this directory could use that would spice it up a little? It may be free but I still plan to push it just as hard as I do with index-it.

Any feed back would be great, good or bad, you won't make me cry if you say something bad.

For one thing, maintaining a free web directory can be very time consuming

Never knew until i saw your interview that index it was hand coded and i personally feel that using a script as a backend can save a lot of time.

I have had personal experience when i say that

You have got the categorization in plenty and submission can be very quick

However, i am a little confused on seperate categorization for "Regional" & "World"

The ambiguity may prove a little difficult for the submittor

On the positive note i like the fact that you have given importance to the "Travel" category which has seen the maximum submission for me.

Highly neglected category in most directories

I would alos like to see a instruction page that speaks about your directory and explain features like "Power Search" / " Get Rated"

The keyword search for "on the web" doesnt seem to work or i dont know how to use it

And like you mentioned, a few added mods would just enhance the appeal of the directory and the popularity would soar, complementary to the fact that it is a free directory

And i guess brown is you fav color

Pure unashamed plugging of a script, I loves it! Oh, the directory is pretty neat too.

Good luck, it looks like a directory and even feels like one could not figure out why power search at top right went to submit page? Is that an error for you to check out on?

 

I think it looks very nice. The brown color scheme is very pleasing to me. I submitted my directory and the submission process was easy and straight forward.

 

@kiviniar: funny you mentioned the color, it never really dawned on me how close the two are. You are right about the power search and about us pages, I'll be adding content to those pages soon, right now I'm trying to find a way to pull in the old about us page which is pr4, this directory has about 50 other pr4 pages already but I chose to deleted those categories now and start from scratch. I know running a free directory is not going to be easy but it sure if fun.

@The Pheonix: No that is not an error, but the page does need to be explained.

 

As so we have a PR lover here..

I guess the url struction limitaion would be a problem here, unless you manually code the page with the extension as before

Some pages are worth keeping . I already have here it http://www.keyword-pages.com/About-Keyword-Pages.html and as can you see I'll have to do some hand coding, I should have that one done by tonight, the guidelines page is also pr4 along with the contact us page but those will need the same treatment as well.

I get a JavaScript error when I want to add

you can not add a listing from the main page, that is why you are getting an error. All fields are mandatory except the deep links.

 

I know that, but the thing is that not everyone may know, and thinking the site does not work, they will just close the window and exit. You can either remove the link from the first page, or if there is no CAT in the QueryString, show an error giving a guideline on how to submit new sites

I thought the directory was well put together. Appealing but not overwelming in graphics. Catagories were well chosen and offer a variety of options for those sites which can borderline catagories. Submission was quick simple and to the point.

 

your theme looks good. i have looked world category. i think your web site has problems with international letter. i have checked the category (keyword-pages.com/World/T%C3%BCrk%C3%A7e.html - (world-türkçe)) which is related with me. it's giving 404 error

 

The pr has been extracted for the about us page, contact us page and guidelines page. I also removed the world category as well as the get rated section, I figured there was really no need to have these. I have also fixed the the add a listing from the homepage, submitters will now be taken to a set of steps that will tell them how they can add a site.

I plan to have the sponsored listings set up sometime tonight, the cool thing is that sponsored listings will have their deep links displayed on the category pages they are listed on.

Please let me know if you seen anything that could be added.

nice site, good consept, bummer that you have to do a back link though not always ideal

 

I take it that you did not really check out the site, because if you had you would know that the site does not require a backlink in order to get listed.
