is there a paid submission service on dmoz? ive added my site to the dance music category about a month ago now and am itcing to get it listed
because ive heard stories of it taking years to get in and them not letting you know if your in or out. and its supposed to be the best directory out there so of course i want in
If you hang out here, you ill repeatedly here how much a DMOZ listing is not worth, so was intrigued why you were so keen to be listed.
Because people still think that DMOZ might be "the holly grail". There is a kind of paid submission to dmoz ... but you don't pay to be listed. You just pay someone to submit your site using proper information obtained or not by that submitter.
Why not? It's always nice to get a back link. If you site is crap no amount of 'guideline following' will get you listed and it does not matter how much to pay them to properly submit it. Besides, most of the descriptions given by submitters is ignored and re-written by editors anyways. I recommend people spending their money on filling in their sites before submission, rather then filling in the submission for their site.
Don't pay attention to the detractors - the vast majority of the negativity you'll hear is sour grapes. Webmasters boo-hooing about how DMOZ won't list their garbage. If your site is good (and you'll have to be honest with yourself on this), submit it to the most relevant category, and forget about it. If an editor thinks your site is good, s/he will add it. If not, s/he won't.
I just got accepted in the same category, (or it may have been night life) either way, my blog is about the same subject matter, and it was accepted in 2 weeks. It is not an over saturated category, so the odds may be good. I wish you luck. What's your URL by the way?
A certain editor has been working hard on that cat recently and may still be but that is how many editors work.
Sorry but can i wake you up here if you do not mind? Helloo..... which editor are you talking about most are removed, inactive and most cats do not have any active editors... Are you awake yet.. Good if you are otherwise helloo wake up again.. So stop talking about if an editor thinks bla bla bla comments. There aint any editors for most cats.
That's because DMOZ is for the end user, but the end user does not want to be an editor. All they can hope for is corrupted bastards trying to get their own (or their customers) sites in. Editors are still there. If a cat does not have one, a higher one likely does, if a higher one doesn't then there are those special editors that have access. The majority of sites that are never added are the ones not worthy of being added ~ and actually, if I based it on the complaints I've seen here at Digital Point, all the sites not added are not worthy of being listed in any directory. So it's less about a lack of editors and more of a lack of quality sites, and if you disagree look around here and compare the complaint threads with sites listing dead links and duplicate content with sites that actually are offering something.
http://dmoz.org/World/Hrvatski/ has single editor, you can check when was last time he made significant number of edits... now feel free to ask if there is meta or editall which understands Croatian/hrvatski... none? How many more categories exist in World which have no editor and none of meta/editalls have no clue about the language? From massive difference in number of listed websites in each language too many http://dmoz.org/World/ especially if we compare this to number of articles written on Wikipedia per each language, extreme case is Slovenian which has only 876 links at the same time wiki is closing to 50000 articles being 27th largest wiki in the World! There are probably more links on Wikipedia then in DMOZ! http://www.najdi.si/nk/ is directory of Slovenian websites which has 57612 links!!! So there is something badly wrong with how work is done at DMOZ! So claiming that all categories have editor is really silly or World isn't part of DMOZ and only English counts? I've submitted bunch of quality links (half of them have nothing with me) including official websites, none got listed, I could submit at lest 200 quality links with original content (none of them my) over night but what is the point when none of them is going to be listed - ever! That is why I become editor in the first place to list all these good websites but apparently that is Conflict of Interests at DMOZ since DMOZ prefers to list porn crap.
I've never looked into the world categories, unless you want to count my tiny little part of east Tennessee...but I only only checked that once (and it too is sorely lacking). So yes, I guess I am talking about the non-world categories. Compare your 'bunch' to the number of crap sites in most of the other threads and tell me that again... So it's less about a lack of editors and more of a lack of quality sites I'm talking generally... you seem to be focusing specifically on that area. I'll never say that quality ALWAYS get listed, and I'll never say that crap sites are always rejected, but I can say that the people submitting crap sites and then never getting listed are generally the ones to complain about DMOZ sucking...
That is because only people with crap sites really need link at DMOZ since nobody else wants to link to them. Reason more to have open logs like Wikipedia so we can all laugh to crap that is being submitted - DMOZ logs would become number one topic on humor forums and possibly bring a few good editors.
If wikipedia can do it I see no reason why should DMOZ act like it is such a big secret, a lot more spammer are targeting wikipedia then DMOZ these days and besides its not as if it is particularly hard to become editor and get full access to the logs, if editors want to keep there privacy author of the note can remain only visible to other editors. With logs visible there would be lot less "was my website rejected posts".
Do you mean dmoz editor should put the logs into public? I think they would not do that, if they would, it happened many years ago.
They are already in public, all you have to do is become editor and you can read them as much as you want... so anyone really interested has read them already and knows why his/her website got rejected and which editor was responsible. Currently hiding logs can have only one reason to hide how neglected DMOZ really is!
To add to that Dmoz gave me only like maybe 1-2 hits lol a month, but wiki gives around 40-50 hits , so decide which one is better ? Wiki or dmoz? Do you like traffic or you only in it for PR ?
