Just curious, but if my site is listed on another site that has a PR1 as of right now but that site goes to a PR4 on the next check, does my site also change accordingly? Meaning does Google see mine connected to a PR1 or a PR4 site the next time they check PR's? Thanks for your help, Im new to all of this!
First of all, keep in mind that sites don't have PageRank, pages have PageRank. The value of any link depends on the PageRank score of the page where the link originates divided by the number of links on that page. So for a link to be at all valuable in terms of PageRank, you have to be sure that it is in Google's index. The simplest way to check that is to see if the page is in Google's cache, even though there are times when that method won't work. But to answer your question, yes, if the PageRank score of a page that links to your site increases, the value of that link to your site also increases.
Just because the inbound page improves in rank wont jump you up that much, but it will make a good contribution. So YES this will help your PR improve but may not simply move up based upon improvement of just 1 site.
To short-answer: your PageRank will not increase as much as that of a site that links to you, based solely upon that site's PageRank increase.
Thats why I submit to new directories so I would get a top spot in the category that interest me. When this new directory gain good pagerank (3-5) and then switch to a paid directory, my site would be already listed there for free Its a long term investment but would pay off after an update or two
omg if only that worked all the time lol, but you should still buy links with PR and not just stick to PR0 - could mean the site is new, has low traffic, and there is a chance it wont go up. but the right buy isnt always that easy to find
Yes indeed but buying wont work if you have many sites to promote and low budget. Basicly you win if that category gets a good pagerank and there is nothing to lose if doesn't. Anyway, I don't think a category would jump from 0 to 7, even if it does, I don't think the owner would keep your link
Both of those are false. If you have a link on a page, and that page isn't overloaded with other links, then yes, if that page goes up in PR yours will to. Think of it this way... say you have a site, and all links pointing to that site are pointed at the homepage. The homepage has a PR2, and the inner pages 1 link in are all PR1. If next update the homepage goes to a PR6, then yes, you would reasonably expect the inner pages to all go up to PR5. It's like rainborick said, it's PageRank, not SiteRank... it doesn't matter of the pages linked to are on the same site or not. If the one page goes up, then the pages it links to should go up as well. -Michael
