phpBB3 "Olympus" RC1 Released

Discussion in 'phpBB' started by Aragorn, May 22, 2007.

After years of waiting, the much awaited Release Candidate of the phpBB3 "Olympus" has been released today. From this release onwards, the community will be providing full support. The major problem that has been bugging the phpBB development team and was holding back the progress was the CAPTCHA problem. I'm already a great fan of the new default phpBB theme viz. proSilver (which will replace the previous subSilver theme).

    Kudos phpBB community. Great work!!!

I hope they take security seriously this time, I had to switch to SMF due to their captcha related problems and those too late but too often security releases.

They have probably fixed the security problems now, I am sure they would have done this. If they have, and spam is lowered, phpBB will definatly claim the number one free forum software on the internet.

I don't have much experience with the old acp. But I do like the new one.

This new version deserves a new word, like 'awesomer' cause that's the only way to describe it. Actually managed to convert my Categories Hierarchy modded phpbb2.2 to phpbb3 (not an easy task as CH overhauls about 90% of regular phpbb files).

In the past, change has always met with resistance from members, but from the looks of it, everyone's REALLY liking the new features. A definite pleasure to be using this, and a massive improvement over 2.2

I agree the new version is awesome and I've already using it as a basic CMS on a new site. It's just as easy to work with and modify as 2.x.

I've nothing to add ... great stuff!
Only thing is that there aren't many mods for 3.x out yet, but it won't take long anymore ... ;)

    Hi All

I have downloaded this and I am now fully testing it on a website but so far have yet to find any main problems. The new ACP makes things a whole lot easier compared to v2.x also the UCP is a lot more user friendly than the old version and there is so many more advance features. One of the main ones that I like is the spider/bot feature in th ACP it allows you to deactivate bot visits and add new ones and you can control how the search engines access your forum.

So far a very big Thumbs up for PHPBB3

    Pete

Is there any convertor available for vB to phpBB 3.x yet?

P.S. Anyone can lookup the default green skin for vb as on DP...:)

phpBB 3.X currently only has a phpBB 2.x to phpBB 3.x convertor; before it releases there won't be many convertors available yet :)

About the green skin of DP; isn't it custom? Just a green version of the default vB skin?

Yeah, its been years. The 'security holes' issue was a big one. I am glad there is something finally being done.

I guess it will take a while again until there is a new release candidate.

    No doubt :)
But I rather want it to take longer than being instable or insecure ... ;)
