I curious though, and I really don't know much about foreign policy, but if we had another "great depression", would the hatred of us by most of the rest of the world have any effect on us getting out of it?

What I mean is, how much of us getting out of the great depression had to do with other countries helping us, and would they be willing to do that today or would they take advantage of us and keep us down?

 

We were in a worse economic depression in the 1980s than we were during the Great Depression yet we survived. We are in an economic upturn right now and the economy cycles every few years. We have been hated for a long time but the world hates Bush more than most times in the past. This will change after the 2008 election. As much as our economic system is not perfect, it does work better than most so there will be ups and down. During the Great Depression, people were killing themselves because they lost a lot of money and thought that the United States would never recover. A few short years later we were back as an economic superstar. No use stressing over it.

 

Anyone know how much help we got from other nations during that time until we got out of it though? And whether it was sort of charity, or the other nations profited from giving us loans?

Yes. That would be a problem. I'm not currently affiliated with any secret society, as far as I know (!!), but I'm looking into options. Worldwide domination and predicting the future seems like it'd be fun.
