Negative effects of Directory submission?

I'm trying to get backlinks to my site and raise it from pr3 to at least pr5.

One thing I've found on this site is people offering to submit your site to like 1,500 directories for $50 or something.

This to me sounds like a good deal since it will give me more backlinks and it would take me a long time to do this by myself.

Is there any downside to this technique?

I'm also planning on doing some article submission via the same method and some press releases.

    Thank you.

You're better to take the $50 and submit it to one or two high quality directories

Do you know what 1 or 2 directories would be good?

I'm sorry I'm such a noob at this stuff, I'm reading the forum though and learning a lot every day.

If you are going to give some one that $50 make sure they submit them. do to the fact that they are submitting them to free directory. it takes a while for you to get approve. you may be better of paying someone to place a link on a blog or make a post in a blog about your site. plus if you are going to get links, they should be deep links.

So I should find high ranking blogs that are related to my site and e-mail the owner and ask him/her to make a post about my site in exchange for cash? I never thought of that, sounds like a decent idea. I'll try it.

Bulk submissions are basically done with the help of automated submission software . Its better if you spend this money in getting high quality directory links.

i payed $39 for manual submission to 800 directories. It seemed to help, i wouldnt say there is disadvantages. But paid submission to sites with PR4 and PR5 pages is probably the best way to spend your money.

    ok, thanks everyone.

I'll hold off on the bulk submission then and focus on getting some of the better "paid" directories.

Yep just use the InFormEnter plugin for Firefox, it will make your directory submissions so quick and easy you'll kick your own butt for not using it sooner.

Yes there can be. When you are doing directory submission, after your link has been added always check the page where your link is placed and also whether that placed in cached or not and most importantly it is not a supplemental or a banned webpage (the chances of which are always more).

It does seem to kick some life into a new site yes, the trouble is getting a reputable company to do a good job of directory submission. One that allows you to pick which directories you want submitting to and charges you accordingly.

When I look through google webmaster console though I cant see mention of the directories for backlinks though, but google is notoriously bad at reporting your backlinks accurately.

OK, I'll just see if I can find maybe 5 or 6 paid, high PR directories and buy a years worth of links from them then.

Does anyone have any sugestions on the best Directories to pay to submit to or where a list of the best directories is?

Please consider submitting to our eco-house building website. It's PR5 and you can have your link there permanently for as low as $0.50 ;)
