Hypothetical question here guys, if you went to a freelance site and caught someone out deliberately trying to sell the sourcecode of a script, in this example esyndicat for more than $1800 what would you do?

Let me see if I understand correctly.

A freelancer that worked for (person in question) took the (person in question)'s script that he edited and sold it?

I would report that to the proper authorities and/or sue him

Get em! That is text book intellectual property theft.
Was there a contract and a non disclosure?

Were you on a NDA. If so, forget selling, the freelancer is not supposed to discuss the about the project without your written permission.

Sue him and don't let such cheats go out and scam others !

esyndicat is unencoded so the source code is available for $49, why would someone pay $1800 instead?

A freelance offered to provide a person with a directory script, when asked by the buyer if the $1800 bought the rights to the sourcecode the freelancer said yes in a bat of an eyelid. Hypothetically speaking of course.

The buyer in this hypothetical scenario did not want to buy a copy of a script but wanted to buy the sourcecode and proprietry rights to a code so $1800 seemed like a pretty tempting deal for reseller rights until the buyer recognised the script template not the code.

do you mean that this is why phplynx is encoded?
I don't think that they have to justify anything, it is their choice but many including myself won't like it.

This has got nothing to do with phpLynx or whether it is or isn't coded its got to do with my original post mhamdi. Wouldn't like what? The theft of someone else's code I'm assuming right?

OOOhhh, you mean he is straight out trying to "Jack " somebody.
Well, it's done everyday, but the buyer , once he finds out he just got "Jacked" has grounds to sue.

Exactly, the problem I see though is that half the time its impossible to tell who is behind the freelancers' real name, they use all sorts of tricks or so I am learning very fast.

Well hpothetically speaking if this lawsuit needed any evidence then this could easily be provided. One thing I can't and won't put up with is IP theft regardless of whether I use the script or not.
